Range Hood vs. Microwave above
Comments (9)I had wanted a microwave above my new GE Cafe Gas Range but I am not quite 4'11" tall and I was not comfortable with any of the over the range microwaves at the home of friends so I knew I had to buy a stainless steel range hood and keep my old microwave on the counter catty corner. I kept going back between the GE recirculating one that looked cheap underneath but matched and the Broan that was not as good of a match. I happened to see a zephyr breeze ii series ak1200 at a store that was so much prettier than the pictures online so I went home to research it and knew I would be happy with the buttons underneath that I could reach, the clean modern lines in the front, the sleak look as well as the great lighting. It does a great job of getting out odors even in recirculation mode. In person with my GE Cafe Range, they look like a great match and it really is nice looking. The price before installation can be found for less than $300 and it is rated 400 CFM if you vent it to the outdoors....See MoreWhose kitchen is this? microwave shelf above stove
Comments (11)I have a microwave shelf in my kitchen 18" above the counter, and it works well for me. Puts the microwave at eye level like an over the range micro (I'm 5'7"), but out I the way when I'm cooking. Anything coming out of the microwave can be lifted straight down onto the counter below. Haven't had any problems with lifting dishes in and out--it's only an inch or two higher than the bottom shelf of our cabinets....See MoreWhat type of contractor would I call to vent an above stove microwave?
Comments (7)I think for most people it is easier to find a competent HVAC company to do this than to find someone who calls themselves a handyman who you can trust to have the skills to do it properly. I know how to get a licensed electrician, licensed plumber and a reliable experienced HVAC person. When I remodeled, my HVAC company moved the vent because I moved the position of my cooktop a bit so the connection to the exhaust system also had to be moved before the wall was finished and tiled. OP's installation is even a bit trickier since there is also the issue of how opening and sealing the exterior wall would be handled. At least with a reliable HVAC company they will let you know what they could or couldn't do. I would also think they had experience in actually doing exterior venting and if they didn't handle the exterior opening they would have a recommendation. I have no idea where I would find a "handyman" - I used to have one but he retired years ago. Perhaps I would use a handyman from Angie's List or equivalent to hang a shelf or the equivalent but I would never trust someone to do anything that required a level of expertise and which could be done in a half assed manner that wouldn't be apparent immediately....See Moredrawer microwave or microwave on shelf next to refrigerator .
Comments (16)I have a Sharp microwave drawer with a tilt out panel and so far it has given me no trouble - in use since 2018. It's very convenient to use. Why specifically would the drawer be easier to use. My friend has a relatively large kitchen and her microwave is in a large "cubby". She had the carpenter create a pull out shelf so there is a convenient landing spot for food being taken out or put in. I have a small kitchen and so having the microwave drawer under the wall oven was the most functional location. No place on the counter and no place to put t on a "shelf" or cubby as it would have eaten up more space than as a drawer....See Moreiamtiramisu
