Define full? It grows by segments, either branches or continues same direction.Of course, you can take cuttings and root a chain of these segments(needs at least 3 to work i think), if you want it full. Otherwise it doesnt make offshoots though the ground or near it like many clumping cacti(peanut, mammillaria, echinopsis....)

I have always rooted segments and placed them back in the pot but never thought if they’d spread on their own . Things that run through my head ;)

They don't have runners under the soil, and they don't divide. I've had some older ones where new leaves form right near the base or more will grow on the first 'leaf', and it appears to have more than one trunk, so to speak, when it gets woody. But that's after many years. I like to put at least three cuttings in a pot and it should keep ramifying, meaning one leaf with grow two leaves on it (or three) and so on. If you've got one long string of leaves, cut one off cleanly at the base, and two more should grow on it. You can then root what you remove.

Not such a weird question, but no, they don't spread. As stated above they get longer, & sometimes branch. When long enough, a portion breaks off & drops off, taking root where it lands.

They don't spread sideways because in nature, they don't grow in soil, but rather in the crotch of tree branches, So to get a full pot of the plants, one should plant multiple cuttings comprised of at least 3 segments each.

To give an idea of amounts, in a 3" diameter plastic pot, one would pot 3 or 4 cuttings, so if using a bigger pot, use more cuttings.
