painting over newly stained wood
Comments (2)Usually with two different types of wood, you need to do two different stain matches or sometimes thinning the stain with paint thinner to lighten the color of the stain will work. To lighten it after the stain has dried you can dip a rag in paint thinner and try to pull some of the dark out but this may be hard to do after the stain has dried. You can use an oil primer over the stain and then paint with the topcoat of your choice....See MoreWarning against Corian Quartz - Don't do it!
Comments (26)The guys in the lab at DuPont are all saying "We told you so." to the marketing and design departments. The bald people at DuPont are all in the Public Relations department. They've pulled out all their hair. Swami Joe predicts they pull the plug on this; it's unsustainable because of the internet. Comments (9)Here's what I'm seeing. I can see a floor with 35-40% dark heartwood. The SUPER PALE colour is the dominant colour. Great. The option that I'm seeing is: Go out and purchase the SAME amount of flooring as you JUST purchased ($6/sf is deathly low for wide plank hickory) and REMOVE the DARK stuff and pick ONLY the light stuff. Yep. Go ahead and purchase MORE and then pick through EVERY BOX. Have the installer come back (on another day) and remove the WHOLE floor and install only the light stuff. Done. And done. Of course you will have paid $12/sf for the wood and then $1.50/sf to remove the wood and then a total of $6/sf for the labour. But you will have a floor that OFFERS YOU some piece of mind. At $6/sf I worry the thickness of the hickory AND the FACTORY FINISH are going to hamper the ability to sand/refinish. Tell us a little bit more about the product and we'll let you know if you have the ability to sand/stain....See Morenattles1983
