Unknown from the Wallowas 1

I recently took a short backpacking trip up into the Wallowa Mountains of northeast Oregon. I was able to figure out most of the things I saw, but a few have eluded me. Here’s the first:

All were on Eagle Cap above 8000’. Any guesses?

Sadly no. It was hirsute and not succulent. Here’s a zoomed in version of the pods.

The leaves on this plant are only 1/4"-3/8" wide right now. All the pictures I saw of Cordyline Indivisa had leaves much wider--even young plants. It could be a type of Cordyline. I guess I'll have to let it grow a little more before I can tell for sure.

I was immediately reminded of Digitalis lanata and see peren went there too. It has been too many years since I grew Grecian Foxglove so I can't remember for sure if this is a match but the seed pods are what took me to that suggestion. I collect a lot of seeds and I know for sure I collected seed from mine so I would have looked at the pods pretty closely. So maybe?

Something spiny from the wallowas

I was just thinking it had a resemblance to Arenaria caroliniana (now Minuartia caroliniana, I guess) that grows in the NJ Pine Barrens. I didn't realize how big that genus was.

That certainly might be. It certainly would be easier to confirm with a flower. It is noted as a species found in the area on the Oregon plant atlas. Heres a nice Corydalis scouleri and a Calypso for your consideration

It very well could be, floral. Those pods look pretty brassicaceous.

Eriogonum sp.??? The foliage is a good match it seems but pods perhaps not so much. You always show us such interesting plants.

There were many Eriogonums on the mountain but this isn’t one.

Heres the ones that were common up there.
Right now I’m considering whether the OP could be Draba Incerta...?

Since all of the posts have been resolved except this one, I thought I’d post a few “bonus photos” from the Wallowas. Stop reading now if you’re not a plant nerd. Corrections are more than welcome.

I’m assuming that this is a silene acaulis.

There were some large old dead/half dead Pinus flexilis that we’re quite striking.

It was obvious that 3 weeks ago would have been ideal for floral display. Next time... it was still very enjoyable.

Thanks all. The Wallowas are definitely worth a trip if you have the legs for it. They are generally regarded as a “backpack only” range because the trailhead parking is at least 3 miles from any real views and about 7 miles from the top of anything. There were a ton of plants that I didn’t take pictures of, mostly because I was hiking with a normal person and slowing down to take yet another picture of some small yellow thing wasn’t her MO. If I was there 3 weeks ago, vast stretches of boggy heath would have turned the meadows pink.

OH man, I would have insisted. My husband and I are both camera addicted people so I am lucky. The Only time I got pissed off at him when he made me carry his anchor of a telephoto on the climb up Muana Loa (13,700') 40 mile round trip back in '79 when those lenses were HUGE .. But I kept it to myself sense he was very understanding of my morning bouts with altitude sickness. I don't think he ever used it.
