Gyr...What is on the front of that Ibex? The front leg proportions are skewed...to me...and I can't figure out what the darker shape is. My eyesight leaves something to be desired these days so it may be me...but it's been driving me bonkers trying to identify the dark area.

Winter, I think that is a bighorn sheep. It looks like it's just a darker hair on his chest to me.

Thanks, Murraysmom. It's been nagging at me all day. I keep coming back and looking...again and again. I even took my trusty magnifying glass to it and I still couldn't figure it out. LOL Some days are just like that!...she said as she shook her head.

Winter, I didn't notice it when I first looked at it earlier today. But looking at it now, after reading your post, I see exactly what you mean. The front legs look too small tor the size of the animal, and it looks like there is something on the chest, almost like three shiny metal objects attached somehow. Or maybe some kind of swellings that have caused the skin to be shiny. Weird, but then I'm not familiar with what a Bighorn looks like from the front, and my eyes don't always work the way they should, either. Maybe Gyr_falcon will come back and explain for us.

LOL Thanks, Rusty. Now I feel better. One of my other earlier thoughts was that it might be a display...as in a stuffed animal/Bighorn...and the dark part is an informational plaque of some sort. It's positively amazing what my imagination can come up with when it's challenged. LOL

Rob, sorry about your camera, but I had to laugh. This could have happened to me.

Sorry Winter and Rusty, I've been off shopping for replacement small appliances and playing games most of the day.

I wasn't sure about the markings in my bighorn's photo, but when I went to quickly google other photos online, it appears that it isn't uncommon for them to have dark markings where their legs meet the chest, and even along their sides along the belly. [ comparison photos ] I also found this photo, which shows it is normal for them to have a funny bump, and/or coloration in the chest area. I honestly never really noticed before. This was a wild animal; the photo was taken in a state park in Nevada.

Bless you, Gyr, for taking the time to explain and focus my tired old eyes. It's a stunning photo and I lingered over it because it was so stunning. Then I noticed the color differential and mused enough about it to finally ask. Thank you so much for taking the time to educate me.

Actually...I should have been off doing what you did today. I need a new stove and I'm dragging me feet. The project is not a favorite...and with my lack of dedication to finding a replacement...it'll probably give up the ghost entirely when I least expect or want it to do so. Murphy's Law and I are old friends. :-)

I don't envy you stove shopping. Mine was just a simple immersion blender and a Belgian waffle iron. Still, after hours of searching, I find the immersion blenders are now just junk--even at $100. I don't know yet if I'll just get a cheapo and replace it frequently or make do without. I'd rather buy quality and have one that would last.

I'm of the quality over quantity genre, too. And I'm getting less patient as time goes on with what's available on the market these days. When I pay top dollar for an item I expect it to last at least a half of a life time. The stove I'm needing to replace is only ten years old...with moderate usage and tender loving care from just me. It replaced a stove 20+ years old that saw heavy use. I expected this one to last at least as long. No such luck. As you might guess...I am not a happy camper. Sigh.

I agree with Winter, Gyr, thank you for clearing up the mystery! And the opportunity to learn something new. That really is a stunning photo, a very majestic looking animal.
