I'm so glad you have done this in such a way that it can be undone if desired by a future owner, and documented it on the label for history. The original maker may have believed it WAS finished. Not all quilts required actual quilting stitches with a batting inside. We often find log cabins, pineapples, silk crazies, and others sewn on a foundation that were not meant to be *quilted* as we think of quilting today. BlueBars

We have a modern house that we built in the mountains of Colorado, with no rustic elements. What you're describing, except for the modern shape you mention, sounds like a lot of the houses that I see being built in the mountains these days. Often they're called "mountain modern," though if you ask me, they're not very modern. Or mountain vernacular, though that tend to also include big huge tree logs that aren't actually supporting anything. Those with the old lumber and rusted metal remind me of the old mining structures that we see here and there while hiking. I think that's the intent. I think the people who buy and/or build these houses think they work well (it's not my preferred style). It seems that at times there are too many exterior materials, so they look a bit overly busy to me; you may want to decide how you feel about that.

I love the view, and I'd love to attend a medieval event there. Although even if I could afford, I wouldn't be tempted into buying. (I do hope it has hidden passages and all, if they went to all this trouble....) PS edit: I feel the same way about Gillette Castle here in Connecticut, which I have gone and seen as it is now a museum. Fascinating for what these places are.
