What's chewing my pumpkin blossoms overnight, insect or animal?

Something is chewing on my pumpkin patch. Always happens overnight and its favorite thing seems to be flowers, it also chews tender baby leaves/shoots/flower buds and leaves bits of them on the ground. Have seen a couple of oblong holes chewed into leaf stems (nothing was inside). Zero chewing on adult leaves or main vine at all. I check quite thoroughly under leaves and have noticed no insects or eggs.

I'm trying to decide if this is necessarily even insect damage as opposed to rodent, are there any clues in these pictures?

I'm in suburban Phoenix, there are a few cottontail rabbits around my neighborhood though I've never seen one in my yard, as well as mice/rats.
