Yes, I have Revere and I use Bar Keeper's Friend. I use the dry powder sprinkle it on and use a wet paper towel to clean. Rinse well and wash with dish detergent.

As 2MD said, Do not leave it to "soak". You can repeat after rinsing if some is left, but do not leave on the pot.

I agree, I have had that color before if I forgot the pan and let it get too hot.

Former owners might also have tried dying something, like Easter Eggs and let the dye sit too long. Lemon juice with some salt might work, if BKF doesn't.

That is probably not staining, it's likely oxidation from overheating, known as thin-film interference. If that is, then nothing can remove it except sanding.

Dcarch, I have had it and I HAVE taken it off with Bar Keeper's. DO NOT SAND! The old Revere Ware is a fantastic stainless. I have some of my parent's and grandparent's from the 40's and mine from the 70's.

Dye won't stain it either. Bar Keeper's will also take off the "starch" left after cooking something like field peas.

I've noticed this blue-ish discoloration when I cook pasta sometimes (in various SS pots). I'd thought it was from the heat... or perhaps a salt reaction as I often put sauce back in with my pasta - I know salt discolored SS. Again, Bar Keeper's Friend always did the trick for me.

The dark blue steel color sounds like what I've seen on mine in the past. Wishing you luck in removing it. If it doesn't come off, I'd most likely use it and be happy with my purchase/deal : )

I clean all my stainless steel pots (40 years old) with Bon Ami cleanser and a sponge. No chemicals and it doesn't scratch. Great stuff.

Meant to mention I have BKF in both the liquid and powder. I think the powder's more effective. It also does a great job cleaning the interior of my Le Creuset pots.

Agree with Dcarch; probably the pan was overheated. I did not know that you can sand to get rid of it, though. Thank you, Dcarch.

Actually, the oxide layer from overheating on stainless steel is colorless.

As you know, you can see a rainbow color reflection of oil slick on water when in fact oil is basically colorless. Or rainbow color on soap bubbles. The reason for the color is that as light (white light ) hits the ultra thin layer of oil, the reflection cancels and reinforces each wavelength because the thinness of the oil is very close to the wavelength of light.

Same with the oxide layer on S.S. it's very thin, the color of discoloration depends on how thick this layer is from overheating.

Yes, BKF works because it is an abrasive and an acid, it can remove and dissolve this oxide layer.
