Stainless Steel Ranges - Cleaning ??
Comments (21)I cna't speak to the BlueStar appliances, but I just have to chime in here and say that I do lkie the look of SS appliances in the right setting (esp. with cherry cabinets, which we have.) We opted to get SS range, microhood and FD fridge. I am just having a hard time dealing with the smudge factor on the SS. When I had my porcelain and textured appliances there was never a glaring smudge - whatever smear you had could be cleaned up with a spritz of Pine-Sol and a damp cloth - maybe 2-3x a week. With the SS I have to use a lightly soapy sponge. rinse it and then use a "special SS" cleaner, spray it on or use a SS wipe and then try and polish it out streak-free with a soft cloth or micro cloth every single time I use it. Sometimes I take a paper towel and use it to open the fridge or microwave just to avoid getting fingerprints on the metal. (And you have to be sure you wipe it in the same direction as the grain.) Sigh. It's just much ado about something that should really be nothing in this day and age....See MoreCleaning brown spots from stainless pan
Comments (23)I cannot get the brown spots off of the bottom of my All-Clad ss roasting pan status post huge goose last night. Used BKF and Dawn Power Dissolver. The varnish-y stuff came off, but not the brown. I roasted, per recipe, at 375 degrees. Goose was great, pan looks terrible. Since roasting uses high heat, and the AC roasters are solid stainless, should it be so difficult to clean them after roasting? I'll continue to try to clean the pan tomorrow, but I believe it should not be so time-consuming. OTOH, I do not like putting dirty-looking pots and pans back in my cupboard....See Morestainless steel appliances, sink and faucets--how to keep clean
Comments (22)morton, I also expect to see wear and patina over time with my ss sink. At the moment, I think I'm in "new car" mode - I want to preserve the shiny newness of everything for as long as possible! DH hasn't seen me clean so much in all the time we've been married :-) Having said that, I have a scratch on the cooktop and an indelible mark on our wood island top already - no biggie. We wanted to choose things that would appear to be appropriate for our old house and old houses have patina. Our old kitchen had a ss sink that was at least 20 yrs old and I certainly didn't baby it the way I'm doing with this one. Looked just fine. I guess it goes back to the linen pants analogy that's often used to determine whether someone would love soapstone or not: if the wrinkles bother you, it may not be for you. And we have soapstone too so I guess you know we don't mind a ding or two! Eliz...See Morecleaning stainless steel frying pans
Comments (11)Deglaze the pan after cooking. Heat up the dirty skillet, then pour in a little cold water, and scrape with a spatula. All the stuck on mess comes loose and the pan is easily cleaned. Any remaining residue will come right off with a baking soda scrub. For really scorched pans, heat some water in it, add some dishwasher powder detergent and let soak. That stuff works like a charm....See Moredcarch7 d c f l a s h 7 @ y a h o o . c o m
