kitchen cabinet dilemna about door styles
Comments (1)If it’s in the laundry room tucked away, don’t even let it enter your mind. You could see what the cost just to make new doors is (that’s what I did in my laundry room but my old cabinets were off white). The style doors you have now are definitely 90’s/early 2000’s, so if you’re spending money to update, definitely change the door style, or it will be like you didn’t do anything....See MoreMiddle entry door/open floorplan living rm, but I want closet+entryway
Comments (6)@Gcubed Living room serves as a large comfy space when we have lots of friends over. I was also thinking of splitting the space so that 1/3 of the space is a conference table. We have a dining room in the back connected to the kitchen. There's two side doors, one that opens into the kitchen and the other is near the staircase. None of those have a closet/mudroom functions. The basement has an entrance and I was going to make that the mudroom entrance because of the dogs. My husband likes to enter from the sides. I like to enter through the front door and hang up things. It would also be the entrance for guests so that's why I wanted a coat closet. @Lidia - Something like this?...See MoreIs it OK to have a white garage door with a stained entry door?
Comments (8)Cheryl, I think the word that you were looking for is canted. Angled would also be understood too. I'm generally in favor of having garage doors match the color of the house, unless they are on their own elevation and can be treated as a focal point of that facade. Where they are visible along with the front door they should not be focus pulling, especially when they are much larger than the front door. For the same reason I would typically discourage white garage doors. They tend to be just as focus pulling and distracting. But in the case where your siding color appears to be very light, you may be able to get away with it....See MorePatio Door Dilemna
Comments (5)I would suggest you double check your code. A dwelling is required to have 1 egress door. That is usually the front door, being 36" wide (32"x78" net clear) and only 1 step to a stoop or porch. The rear sliding door then would not be considered an egress door, which is addressed by code. Reference IRC R311.3.2 Exception (paraphrased): a top landing is not required with steps of no more than 2 risers. However, there is practicality when you stand at a sliding door holding a plate of food - it is nice to have a deeper landing than an 11" step tread to have a good footing to slide the door at the handle height, not from below it prior to engaging the steps....See Moreaichoucha
