Two end tables into a bench with storage
Comments (14)You all are so kind! Thanks so much! It's really come in handy - especially for getting dressed for work in the morning - so much easier to sit and put on my shoes, rather than hopping around on one leg doing so! And, our pups (2 greyhounds) sleep on their beds on the floor in space in front of the bench at night, so we use the larger baskets for storing the throws that we cover them with at night. LOL! I would like to find some taffeta fabric to match the comforter set a little better - I just used some upholstery fabric that I had on hand to cover it for now. Then, I added stick-on velcro on the underside of the cushion to keep from sliding around on the bench. I mentioned this on another thread, but now is a great time to find bench cushions in the lawn and garden section of home improvement stores or even "wally world." If you can't find them in a fabric pattern that works for you, you can cover it with fabric of your choice by covering it as if you're wrapping a gift (no sewing involved). If you're lucky though, you may find a cushion in a fabric pattern that works for your decor. I ran across them in up to 4" thick. Just a thought! :)...See Morexpost - kitchen bench and table suggestions needed
Comments (5)It's nice to see more of your house. What a beauty. I wouldn't worry about a third wood in your kitchen. Not as furniture. If you were considering adding, say, stripped pince doors, I'd hesitate, but since this is furniture, not structure, that we're talking about, it's OK. Two woods in the stuctural materials is fine and as for furniture, if it looks right, it is right. That's what Dorothy Draper says. I'd use your very best pieces of wood for your table top, since you'll be looking at it, and the other stuff for your bench, but with as much wood as it takes to floor a room, you'll still have plenty left. I might stain the wood--if you need to warm its tone a bit--but keep it fairly transparent to allow the grain to show. Actually, with wood that old & dense, you'd probably have a hard time doing anything else, anyway. One thing I wouldn't do is paint it the color of your stove: let that stand on its own. If you want to integrate its color into the room a little more, add a piece or two of tole or redware. Mostly, rely on good old paste wax to finish & maintain your table. I know a guy who bought a broken down outbuilding, made a handsome table out of its mellow old wood and then wrecked the whole thing with a dozen coats of shiny polyurethane. His workmanship is excellent but his taste is--well, he doesn't have any. Obviously, you folks don't have that handicap. The brick wall, by the way, is great. Comments (50)I like that runner. AND I need a cabinet like that for shoes, too! So, to answer your question, yes, I think you are on the right track. A rug with blues, browns, and greens would tie everything together. Keep looking. You will find it-and don't settle for something you don't love. :). Oh, and don't reject out of hand polypropylene rugs there. They are soft, have great colors, and wear like iron. Easy clean, too which is great with boys and dogs (ask me how I know). We had one in our family room which was also our most-used entrance to the house and now our son has it in his home. Also, Rugs USA is having a 65% off sale for Columbus Day. Comments (18)as for a chair, perhaps a simple slipper chair with a fun pattern. I'm thinking you will need a a pretty shallow chair to sit next to the writing desk... how deep is the desk? https://www.ballarddesigns.com/couture-chair---upholstered/furniture/dining-kitchen/dining-chairs/12379?uniqueId=12379 https://www.wayfair.com/furniture/pdp/andover-mills-galewood-wood-leg-upholstered-dining-chair-w002728421.html?piid=24857688...See Moretqtqtbw
