like to change exterior of 70s house - ideas?
Comments (60)Of all the renditions, I like jterrilynn's last one best. It doesn't fight the original 70s contemporary style -- and perhaps is the least expensive option too. One could quibble over the choice of colors, but I think the bicolor scheme with the top color carried over to the pergola & support columns, and pergola top being at the same level, size, & color as with the center trim band are terrific. It's balanced, it's clean lined, it's attractive. The wider trim around the squarish windows and on the sides works really well. I love jterrilynn's placement of the address numbers -- so simple and so effective. Great job, jterrilynn....See MoreChanging a front entrance from first to second floor
Comments (9)Love that! Thanks Suz and Vith. I'd put up a photo of the house we would change but we don't own it yet, making an offer. Built into the side of a hill so it has a two story elevation on the front and one story on the back facing a pool. Changed my mind, here's the listing http://www.georgiamls.com/1416-Grandma-Branch-Rd/SF/7449708# we'll see if Houzz allows links. The current "front" door enters into the casual family area/game/viewing room. My vision is to create an entrance on what appears to be the second floor from the front and open up the back of the house with huge windows so you see the view immediately when you walk in....See MoreExterior Paint Ideas, got any?
Comments (15)I love the colors Beverly chose for your house. Then I noticed the house on the right in your picture seems to be that same color. I had the same idea as Houssaon above. This is SW Pavement. Usually fascia board and gutter match the trim on the house or the roof. I thought with your roof being so dark that it needs a dark fascia. The raised trim around the windows should be painted another color. I would use a color a few shades darker than the body of the house. I also like the idea of white but I would use a dull white, not a bright white. Don't add any brackets. Your house is fine as designed. Upgrade things like lights....See MoreNew Exterior Paint Second Thoughts
Comments (20)I agree with the comments to take off the shutters for the porch windows and paint the left shutters the same as the garage. Let the red door draw your attention to the entrance. Right now the red shutters on the left overwhelm attention. The entrance gets lost. The shrubs in front of the porch need to be removed since they block the porch view, Besides, the sheared shrubs are high maintenance to keep trimmed. Depending on your location, you should be able to find some dwarf shrubs that max out around 2' and don't need trimming into "boxes". Your house is lovely--just a few tweaks to get it to its maximum beauty....See MoreSJ
