Baby quilt finished

You may remember I cut the white, then decided it was too bright for the batiks I had cut. So I dug out lots of blue scraps.

The quilt is 48” square, so I appliquéd and pieced the back. The strip is deliberately off center vertically. I wasn‘t clear with the long-armer, who didn’t center the back horizontally, so the whales weren’t equidistant from the ends. Hand-embroidered a label, and the problem was solved!

Our great nephew arrived three weeks early. So it’s done and washed and ready to mail.

That’s a beautiful quilt, Latifolia! And the back is so sweet. I can’t tell if the lightest color on the front is a pale blue or grey, but it works really well with the darker blues. Is that a specific pattern or just random placement. It’s great whichever. On second look, I see it’s a pattern. Which one, please?

:) They had an ultra sound last week and...... IT'S A GIRL!!! I also put in over an inch of batting since the little angel will be born in December and it has already started snowing here. Over a foot already and more coming tonight thru Wednesday :) Love this time of year - gives me an excuse to stay inside and quilt. LOL Marie

Each patch in the 9-patch is cut 2-inches square, 8 for each block plus your 1 patch that is the same fabric as the setting triangles. The alternate muslin blocks are cut 5" square. All blocks finish at 4.5" square when they are sewn together. The quilting horizontal lines end up being about 1-inch or a little more apart. My quilt is approx. 38" by 42" and is set 6 blocks across by 7 blocks down. This is a guess, because I made my quilt shorter than what is listed in the book. 6 x 9 = 38" x 57.5"

Sue, Really cute!!! I always make baby quilts a good size so they can be used longer. I was told today that the 13 year old twin girls I made baby quilts for are still using them! The mom said that one of them just likes to hold it and run her hands over it.

The light color is arctic white. This photo may be better.

The pattern is off the cover of one of this summer’s quilting magazines. Sorry don’t recall the name, but they did it in white and little florals.
