Windows Design Dilemma living room

3 Single Window Treatments for Living Room - Help!

Hi,

I need help with window treatments in my living room, photos attached. We have 3 windows, 2 of them are behind our sectional. We are considering installing shades but wondering what other types of window treatments would work here? Or could we get away with only the shades?

The paint color is Oystershell by Benjamin More and we are most likely going to paint the molding/ frames of the windows white.

I like the two inch wood slat blinds from Blinds to Go. Two of my friends have them. They are super flexible for light control and privacy, as well as, well made.

By the way, Move your sectional out from the walls a few inches. It will look better and allow air flow so that the floor radiators work better.

Is there any way you can move the furniture away from the walls a bit? That will give you more options for curtains and decor!

I like the yellow you have, but your artwork has more blues in it. If you're keeping the rug maybe pull a blue or teal from that to inspire paint color. As for window treatments I'd do sheer light curtains, nothing too heavy since you already have heavier furniture and you don't want to take away from the beautiful molding and wainscoting.

All of your choices are nice and the floral is pretty. I am not clear on whether this will be for drapes and/or shades. The two smaller windows look like they are more candidates for shades or blinds versus drapes. Plus there appears to be a fireplace in the center of those two windows - and the whole setup there really doesn’t seem to have adequate room for drapery panels; at least not for adequate panels. You would like a sort of laid back, welcoming feel to the space and you are in California. I would recommend something along the lines of bamboo shades on all the windows, or maybe woven wood type shades or blinds - there are lots of great textures and styles in those. You could also go with some simple Roman shades. But the idea is - something neutral/open/airy on the windows - and then bring in some pattern and maybe a touch of more vibrant color in pillows and other accessories. I don’t know if you are planning on art for the space - but that could have color, also. But it could also be black and white photographic art - maybe a gallery wall. Or metal or fabric art. Whatever art you love and I really do not see art as an accessory. Art is art. Below: Not your color scheme here - but all the throw pillows + the throw could work with your colors and design.

The decors in your living room seem very golden, if you want to achieve a more luxurious look then you should look no further than velvet curtains! The thickness of velvet curtains can also bring an extra layer of privacy as they’re ggod for blacking out light and blocking sounds as well.

Would you consider moving the window AC unit to the window on the far left and then centering your sectional with the two windows, and about a foot out from them?

Are you looking for privacy or just decor? Do you want to add color with your window treatments or stick to the neutral palatte already in the room? I would consider moving your sectional away from the wall a bit, and even enough to walk behind if you have the room.

Hi,

We can move the sectional away from the wall a couple of inches, to get more air flow from the raidiators, but not anywhere beyond that. There is a TV wall about the length of the sectional, directly across from the it and then it opens into the rest of the kitchen area. The AC unit in that window allows the air flow to cool down our entire first floor.

We are looking for some privacy and to make the room more finished.

This isn't about your windows, but I wish your carpet had been large enough to go much further than just the sectional, far enough to include the window area. You could then also have a side table with a lamp, which gives a much warmer glow than those horrible overhead lights. You have enough room for curtains which will soften your look. Painting the wooden window surround is a great idea. I would choose cream side panels in a linen-type fabric.

Have you tried placing the TV between the two windows on the a/c wall? It seems a tv flanked by long windows could be a nice focal point, letting in a bit more light.

Room is pretty dark, I would go with both: white panels ( to the ceiling) for softening/decor and blinds for privacy. A/C is eye sore.

Yes, definitely pull the sofa away from the windows on both sides. So pull sofa forward and to the right. Part of the problem might be that the sofa is just too large for your room.

The sectional appears oversized when compare with the windows in your space. By pulling the sectional away the walls you could do drapery panels that better balance the windows. Painting the millwork, a soft white will freshen things up. Consider making your drapery a color to bring in some interest to the space, pull that color through with some accents in pillows or lamps. Cellular shades are not only pretty, but they will save you money on your energy costs!(AC and Heating)

We'd recommend cordless, top down/ bottom up shades.

This way you can enjoy natural light and privacy all at the same time.
