Granite is in! Please, please help now with backsplash
Comments (4)I am thinking of using the 1x1 squares along the bottom edge with a 1/2" matching travertine border on top and then the 4" diagonal above that. Not sure what to use on the bar though, as it is 4-1/2" so nothing fits just perfect....See MorePlease, Please, Please help me find a backsplash!!
Comments (28)Well I'm a magpie too :) So I have both a mosaic (behind the range) and a subway tile, but I do have to compliment the fact that you went with a blue. I like it with the granite. A neutral would have been safer, and oh so boring :) By the way, we need to use the term DS...oh wait that's taken....(Dear Spouse dear son might get confusing) Or I like "SU" (spousal unit). My DH or SU as the case may be :) was told early in the design process that "I don't know" has a three day window to be turned into "I don't care" if he can't figure out what he wants :) Since I'm the designer...that's a challenge for him heh heh But he's one opinionated SU so normally he comes up with something :) He had definate influance on the backsplash. I was HORRIFIED with the cost, and he decided that it was the "only" one that worked LOL so my inner magpie won LOL...See MoreHelp please! Question about tile backsplash
Comments (14)I'm back, with my kitchen pretty far along now, but I still have a question about the tile! Originally I had thought I was going to use white subway tile, but I found this beautiful matte 3x3 gray ceramic tile at the Heath Ceramics factory for a very good discount, and couldn't say no. My cabinets are all in, the range hood is up, I have mounted 2 wooden shelves to the right of the hood. The plan is to tile everything under the upper cabs, filling the wall space. The tile will go up to the bottom of the range hood. I'm ending the tile horizontally at the outer edge of the open shelving. Now my big question is: do I end the tile vertically at the bottom shelf , i.e.- in line with bottom of upper cabs, or tile up to the bottom of the upper shelf, i.e.- in line with the hood? Any advice or opinions much appreciated! I'm attaching some pictures, very messy as the tiling is in progress. The tiles appear darker in the photos than they do in real life, and especially in daylight, which my kitchen gets a lot of. The actual shelves are not up right now, just the brackets. I'm also attaching a photo of the materials/colors used in the kitchen: white, wood, carrara marble, gray ceramic....See MoreHelp! Will this back-splash work?
Comments (18)If your choice were only between to 2 you originally posted, I'd choose the one on the right--the cream one. From the photos it looks like it works very well with your quartzite. The gray one is "off" just enough not to look pleasing. However, as many have noted, either one is more difficult to clean than a smooth surface. What sort of cook are you--very neat or more devil-may-care? If you are very neat and do not splash much when you cook, then you may get away with the split-faced marble, but if you are a more exuberant cook, you may find it a challenge to clean. The mother of pearl is very formal and quite busy, so it's going to compete with the counter tops as well. Personally, I would use a smooth crackle tile in a tan/beige tone to work with your quartzite. Simple is always good....See MoreJ Kay
