The spammers rare getting very creative. I use Nomorobo so most spam calls don’t get through. I never answer the phone if I don’t recognize the number . One time my son was at the Verizon store and the clerk called me at home about making a change to our family plan. I didn’t answer since I did not know the number. My son had to call me on his cell phone to tell me to answer the call! I miss the days of black rotary phones and every call was legitimate.

I never answer the landline anymore. I have no more robocalls. They stop after the first ring and I check the ID and it's local. Some of the ID says possible scam. Sad life is like this. We give no one the numbers of our iPhones because we don't want them to be used. Only the kids know the numbers and husband's work. I miss talking to friends on the phone but never do now. My kids only text, never call but will answer if I call them.

Don't let the telephone intimidate you. I often find that caller ID numbers I don't recognize are real calls just the same. More often than not. People's names are often in their phone's caller ID (it can be something one needs to initiate) but business names often aren't. When I get such a call from a caller I expect to hear from again, I add the number (and a name) to my landline phone's contact list so that the name will appear with the next call.

If you don't like an incoming call, you can always say No thanks and disconnect.

Robo calls dial numbers in order sequentially, I'm not sure why you say what you did. Do you have a basis for the comment? They don't "get" your number from somewhere, a number is a number.

My wife's cell phone and mine have numerically sequential numbers, her's is the lower number. Sometimes it's happened that her phone rings, then not too much later mine will. Blocking such numbers works temporarily but the dialers change the numbers they spoof regularly.

Really, aren't there better things to be concerned with/worry about? Such calls are annoying only if you allow them to be. Do some of you get so annoyed if a loud car or motorcycle drives down your street? How about if someone is talking too loudly in public? It's not that big a deal.

Spammers will also spoof your number cell or land line. When I receive a call using the area code and first three digits of my cell phone I know it is someone that has received a call supposedly from my cell. About ten years ago if you check this was also happening. It was thought to be phones self dialing which might happen. Before anyone posts that I am butt dialing most of the time it happens I am outside or away from my phone.

I think the main purpose of this thread was alerting those you know who might be GULLIBLE to this scenario.

Sure. I was expressing my view (one of disappointment) when I hear people let these calls affect them, changing their phone behavior. Why have a phone if you don't answer it? Isn't it like running into a back room or standing silently as if no one were home, when someone knocks at the door or rings a bell to a front door you never open? Except it's less rational than not opening a door, there's no threat or risk from answering the telephone.

My husband and my iPhones ring at exactly the same time occasionally. Since no one knows our numbers except kids, not even doctors/dentists, it's obviously a scam. My donotcall sometimes even says on the caller ID...scam?

I’ve beem using the app Mr. Number. You enter # and it tells you where it’s from. You have the option to report as scam, block and write a comment like if it’s bank, cruise, insurance, Etc. related. Of course, it is a defensive strategy after the call, but as the database gets built up, it shines the light on these scammers. I like it.
