I hope you're having fun! The table should be at least 30" wide and allow for 24-30" long per person. We mocked up 30" and 24" for each person, and the 30" seemeed much more comfortable especially for haning out. Don't forget to have him slant the back. On page 26 of Tuanton's "Build like a pro: Remodeling a Kitchen" is a side bar on the "Geometry of booths".

We need the dimensions of the space and depth of the proposed benches to give you an exact answer. Can you please provide them? Typically you want the table to overhang the seat 2" which should give you the width of the table. As for the length that will depend on the space between the wall and counter top. You want to make sure you leave enough space between the counter and table edge so that it's comfortable to get seated. Also, do you prefer the table to be floating in the space or up against the wall?

I'd go with oval, not round. One of the issues we have with our corner banquette is that the round table means only one person on each bench is really close enough to the table without an awkward angle or stretch. (And we still were constantly pushing the table in/out, but that may have been more an issue of messy kids.) If you have an oval table, you'll have a long enough stretch of table proximate to 2 people on the banquette. T And as your inspiration picture shows, an oval looks great too! Alternatively, consider designing the banquette with a slight curve like the 2littlefishies example.

The room is about 7 1/2 x 12... so it's pretty narrow. I was thinking if I put the table and a banquette booth against the far left wall, it would open up the space more. I've seen some pics of a similar layout and I didn't see any with rugs under the table. 1. Is the banquette idea good/bad?, 2. Keep rug and just put under table if a banquette or kill rug all together? Thanks all
