What would be good for 18" of shady garden space?
Comments (6)Dicentra eximia doesn't go dormant and blooms on and off all season but it also isn't really bright, with slightly frosty ferny foliage and pink or white flowers. Iris cristata does well in shade and blooms in spring. Hellebores do well in shade, though even better in some sun in my area, and have early, long-blooming flowers and interesting foliage. Epimediums have relatively early, airy flowers and some have foliage with color on new growth and in the fall. Can you add a photo of the area since it may answer some of my questions? I am wondering if this area needs something taller and whether it can have plants that can grow in an18" wide bed, but have foliage that will spread wider. What is the quality of the shade: brighter on one side so taller plants may lean, dense shade, speckled shade, lots of indirect light, etc.? Would you be willing to add annual shade plants either in a taller narrow pot or in the ground such as coleus that could be wintered over?...See MoreWhat to set thermostat (A/C) in empty Florida condo?
Comments (15)High humidity and mildew is usually a sign of an over sized AC. The capacity of the AC is supposed to be designed to cool the house to 75 on a hot day. Your AC may have been over designed and setting the AC at 84 is making the problem worse. The AC is probably short cycling which means it does not run long enough to dry out the air. You need to lower the thermostat so that it will run for longer periods of time. The other option is to install a thermostat which monitors humidity so it will turn on the AC when the humidity goes above a specified level. If you have a wireless router in the house, then consider getting a thermostat with WiFi. This will allow you to monitor the temperature and humidity while you are away. You could even change the settings in case you get some unusual weather. If you have very high ceilings (10 feet +) then the ceilings fan will help circulate the air. Otherwise I don't think you need to leave them running when you are not there....See MoreFurnish Florida Beach Condo
Comments (23)Yes as havingfun said some do some don't. In my area for some reason September , October and November are the best CL months for furniture ( sometimes throughout the summer) . Once we are in full season the prices go way way up and it's harder to find nice things at good prices. November is pushing it but great finds are still there. If you are lucky you will find that expensive but hardly sat on sofa one has in the formal living room of their 2nd home and out of boredom they just want to redecorate. Normally things in that scenario are priced way to high for CL to start but eventually come down. If you really like something though go and see it to get your foot in the door. You can always make an offer. A low offer will most always be excepted from the person with a van or truck before a person with a car. I have a van so when inquiring on big stuff I mention that in the 1st sentence. If I'm the one selling I always get back with the people who say they have a vehicle that can haul first. When shopping on CL you have to usually just zero in on items individually. If you look at the rooms as a whole you might miss some good stuff....See MoreWhat shade of white for north facing ocean front Florida condo?
Comments (13)Any suggestions for decorating would also be appreciated as I start on the project. My husband says “it’s just a beach pad always full of sand” but I still want it to look nice!...See Moremark kellett
