Landscaping help – what to do with garden walls on boundary?

Hi there, we've recently started landscaping our garden. At the bottom of the garden we've removed some brick raised beds to make it easier to get access to the outbuilding. We're looking to re-landscape this area to…

  • Create new raised beds out of sleepers
  • Straighten the edge of the grass to make this area bigger
  • Replace grass retaining wall with a wall made entirely of sleepers

There are some brick walls along the boundary that ideally we'd like to replace with something A. straighter, B. A single wall and B. that looks nicer. I'm thinking a wall made out of sleepers along the boundary would look nice. Can anyone suggest how I need to go about this? As you can see the walls are a bit wonky but they're right on the boundary and the neighbours garden level is higher than ours. Are they retaining walls? If we remove the walls to replace them are we going to run into problems?

Many thanks! Here's some pictures…

We're going to cut a chunk out of the grass to make this area bigger. Would we need to create a wall along the fence here?
