Any experiences with Fireclay handmade ceramic tiles?
Comments (7)You are welcome--glad I could help. As I understand it, they use the local clay and recycled materials to create their product. San Jose is known for its clay soil, which can make gardening a challenge here. The reason the price point is higher than other manufacturers is that they can't keep all of the many custom colors that they offer in stock, so they make the tiles on a per order basis. Because the tiles are hand made, they have a hand made look and feel with all the slight variations in size, color, and the patina of hand made tile. The owner is well-known in our area and I know he has received awards for having a green product. I think they also make the old California style tiles that are used in our California Spanish style homes bungalows. The catalogs on their Web site give a good idea of their many offerings. Thanks for the compliment on my kitchen! I hung out here on the garden web during the planning and implementation stages in the 2008-2008 time frame. It took me a whole year to find the tiles for my backsplash and the time and money to finish up the kitchen. I'm mid-steam in a bathroom remodel right now, so I hang out in the bathrooms forum now. Yeah, the bone yard is awesome. Local artists go there all the time and I think they even give a class there on how to make stepping stones from the overstock and seconds there. Good luck!...See MoreHelp with source for white SUBWAY tiles
Comments (8)http://www.anchorbaytile.com/ I ordered some samples from Anchor Bay Tile. I wanted beveled white subway with edge pieces. I didn't want to have to seal them, either. My samples look great. I've just got to calculate how much I need and place the order. Their Cottage Lane comes in both beveled and flat. It has a number of different end pieces and trim edges. The colors were almond, summer beige and white. I'm ordering the white. I knew almond would be too dark. I ordered the summer beige and white. The summer beige was too dark. I selected the white. The edges are very straight. I plan on using white grout. Here is a link that might be useful: Anchor Bay Tile...See MoreStill need help choosing backsplash tile
Comments (16)ktj, I finally got a sample of the cameo today. I didn't really like it in the store and I liked it even less at home. For some reason they put more of the color "gunk" on it than they do with the Britton. If it had a lot less of the added color, it might not be so bad. The thing I really can't figure out is why in the store display--hanging vertically--the Britton bone has a much warmer tone to it and looks like it would go perfectly. But when you pick up a sample and look at it horizontally--or at my home in natural light--it has a very stark white/gray look. It's better than the Cameo but I need something with a bit of warmth....See MoreHelp finding White Glossy/Polished Tile
