Ideas for a Recessed Wall Niche next to a Fireplace

I’m purchasing a home that has this type of open floor plan with a very awkward layout of a Recessed Wall Niche next to a Fireplace but there’s no middle area and our tv will look very odd in that small spaces once it’s a 65”. I was thinking of hanging the TV over the fireplace instead but this recessed wall makes everything look out of place. Help! Any idea?

How about a wall seat? Not sure on the depth of your niche but here are two ideas. you could also include shelfing above or book shelfs, I've seen loads of good ideas on google.

Depending on the decor/style of your entire bath, you might find a way to put some beadboard vertically on that side of the rebuilt pony wall. I would think that much more durable and resistant to moisture than MDF. Plus it is 3/8" thick I do believe, taking up less space. Inside the framing have the contractor put some "blocking" so you can screw different things to the wood. Might be a place for the T-paper bracket, the extra rolls could fit behind a sliding partition....most rolls fit on a regular 2x4 so no big deal for them there. Or, you do the beadboard as the back of a shallow shelving unit which stops short of the floor. You sure do not want to have a problem keeping that corner clean. Or to make it look too institutional. I was going to do the same sort of thing with the two halves of a split bath, until I changed the layout.

I haven't tiled mine yet, but I put one in. It measures 30"W x 20"H x 6"D. It starts 6-1/2" above the counter. No, I don't store oils or spices there. But I do use it hold the timer and other miscellaneous items that are not necessarily used while cooking. It could have been an inch or two shallower, but I'm not sure about 3". Ours is not on a load-bearing wall. Now that I think about it, 3" would be fine for some nice bottles, a timer, etc. So, if you really want it, do it! It adds a little bit of "storage" space behind the cooktop. I've been using the kitchen for a year now and so far I haven't had any cleaning issues. Yes, if you have sauce on the back burner something might get splattered, but so does the rest of the wall...so no big deal. Since we don't have a tiled BS yet, we painted our walls with a "scrubbable" paint and it works fine! Winter/Christmas last year: BTW...decor keeps changing as I try to find something I'm completely happy with....maybe hang the trivet? Not sure yet...it will probably be a couple more years b/f we tile the BS.

Pick your wall color from the palest shade of colors from the fireplace stone, taking into account the flooring and the color of your furnishings. If at all possible, wait until your furniture is in there, then choose a paint color. A slightly very pale greige with a tinge of pink would probably work. When doing a new all-house paint job, getting a color consultant who will take into account the finishes, stone, lighting day and night, your furnishings, is worth the $$$.

In top search box I put "shelves on either side of fireplace in photos" and a lot of ideas come up. One thing I would like to say (based on personal experience): If you are a neat freak, go with the open shelving. If not, go with shelving that has doors. The fireplace is also rather you exciting. I’d suggest a wall unit into the niche, and coming out and wrapping up the fireplace (so the fireplace becomes a “thing” inside the wall unit). The wall unit will be quite shallow in the fireplace area but that’s fine, you won’t notice it much and this way, the whole wall becomes one “thing”, instead of two things (fireplace and something to its left) fighting for attention. Also, the wall niche creates an asymmetry along that wall that can’t be denied, so trying to fight it will always throw it off balance. (You can put the TV somewhere in that same wall unit, and it will look better because it’s “buried” in there, instead of being this big black square in the middle of a wall, which is what will happen no matter what else you do.)

I remember when builders did those wall niches in new homes. It was "all the rage" for a time when TVs were housed in wall units, or were enormous boxes themselves that practically needed their own ZIP code. Had one of those in a previous home myself, and it had doors that could be closed when we wanted to pretend like the TV didn't live there. Those niches have pretty much become obsolete as technology has evolved. If that were my space, I'd either drywall over it to make one long expanse of unbroken wall, or I'd have niche-wall - to - niche-wall bookshelves built inside of it.

The niche appears to be about the depth of overhead kitchen cabinets and, if so, using the taller ones, or similar cabinets atop a base built for them, topping that with a wood board w/rounded edge -- you'd have the beginning of built ins. You could then either set your tv atop the built ins or hang your tv on the wall. You'd then have the option of add shelving on both sides of and above the tv -- even changing the shelving as the size of your tv changes in the future.

Make your built ins with doors so the height of the top of it and the mantel are the same height. You could either set your tv atop the built ins or hang your tv on the wall above the built ins. You'd then have the option to add shelving beside or above the tv, depending on the size tv you have now and/or in the future.

You can add a built in to the niche and add the TV in it. It will make it look like the TV is meant to be there.
