WANTED: Options for cross border trading
Comments (7)I don't think GW has actually restricted the trading. They have just restricted who can post in some of the exchange forums. (ie those dedicated to Canadian gardeners). I may have missed something, but I've never seen anything in the rules stating the gw members cannot trade with international participants. It just isn't easy when you can't post in some of the forums because of your residency status. I can understand that from a responsbility perspective, GW would want to limit any risks that could come back to haunt them. Like you, I trade internationally and do so regularly with gardenweb members. I accept the risk and responsibility of that. As a friendly caution, you want to refrain from posting links to other garden trading sites. This is prohibited from gardenweb and I know members that have been banned for doing this. Their search engines are actually programmed to identify certain references to other sites, and warnings pop up when you even try to include any of those names in messages you send other members. They've really stepped up their monitoring. I don't personally care either way, and enjoy finding out about other websites, but thought it would be worth giving you a heads up on their strict policy on this. Thanks....Heather...See MoreAny Astilbe Experts Here?
Comments (21)Update...they came back up! Four out of five of them anyway. And, they are THE most gorgeous shade of purple you have ever seen, just like I remembered! SO very worth the $10 apiece for those things. They didn't spread any and they are a LITTLE small-ish, but I think that's 'cause they got cut down when they were first up. The plant supports were the perfect thing to "mark" them for the mowers. Has anyone seen this variety for sale anywhere in the ATL or MACON areas? I went to Scottsdale for the first time a few weeks ago...wow, is THAT place ever cool! I was like a kid in a candy store (literally, because, y'know...they sell treats in the restaurant part! LOL). They had lots of varieties, but no VS Purple. Just white, red and pink. I really want the purple though. My dream is just banks of the beautiful purple blooms winding down my shady path to the (as yet, un-dug) dry creek bed in the back yard!...See MoreDo we have any financial experts on here?
Comments (25)Laurie, while you think everything will work out the way you're both planning.. you should plan for it not. Things happen, I don't like that there is no child support figured out.. what if at some point you & your ex are not so cordial and you have to go back to court? Any clue how expensive it will be to change it? I can tell you it usually costs me $1,000 or more (usual is $2k-$3K) every time we have to go to court. You also should do something in writing about medical for your child. If he ends up fracturing something or falls down the steps like my girl did; you could be left with high medical bills. In the last few years, I've paid over $15,000+ in uncovered medical expenses. He is supposed to reimburse me 75% after the 1st $250 but he does not. Also, he's screwed me with the deductible he picked which is very high - $800 alone just for my daughter. He's also lowered the tier on dental. Please protect yourself/child. Who gets to claim your child on income tax? What we did was my ex claimed her, I would claim head of household. I don't know if that will apply to you. When I remarried we alternated the deduction - odd years me, even years him. Even though your name was not on the deed, it sounds like you lived there for your whole marriage - in NJ the house would be 1/2 yours regardless. The way they figured it out was they went back to when you would have moved in to find a value; then they would figure out how much the house was worth when you moved out, plus deduct what he had already paid on the house before you moved in IIRC. There was a formula used. From things you are writing, it sounds like you are not getting the correct credit. Are you sure your attorney is looking out for your best interests? I'm glad you guys can be so civil right now but make sure you do research to make sure you are getting what you really deserve. I have one more question. I hate to sound naive, but I was a stay-at-home mom for 16 years, so I didn't start earning a paycheck until December, 2007. My husband has always done our taxes. Piece of advice - get copies of all the income taxes that have been filed. You also want a copy of the marriage license and any other documents. Make sure you have his social security number on file....See MoreAny Salmon Experts Out There?
Comments (27)I'm not a salmon expert but we live in Seattle and eat fresh (summer/fall) and frozen salmon (winter/spring) weekly. We only eat wild caught salmon from the Pacific. I have always been disappointment in the flavor of Atlantic salmon I've eaten. From my experience the color varies across species. For example, sockeye has the richest darkest color. King is often lighter. The color does seem to affect flavor, but I think the most important factor to my palette is freshness. The fresher the wildcaught pacific salmon is when eaten or frozen the better it tastes. We buy frozen from a local vendor that fillets and freezes on the boat so the frozen when defrosted still tastes great. The other thing is not to overcook it. I find defrosted frozen salmon takes less time to cook. If you live somewhere that does not have good access to really fresh salmon then I'd buy frozen and try and source boat processed salmon. I haven't tried Costco salmon but they are a Seattle company and I do think they source, in general, pretty good quality products. If you like it then really that's all that matters. Also, largely you get what you pay for with salmon. The exception is that if it's the first of the season it's a rip off and if it's the height of the season it's a great deal. But wild will typically cost more than farmed and Pacific probably more than Atlantic and those price differences are worth it IMHO....See MoreOlychick
