HELP !! Need ideas for my family room.

We are keeping the fireplace as is, but need some Decor ideas. We are taking out the fireplace insert.

Thank you, We are starting with a blank slate, so whole room ideas are needed. From flooring, furniture, paint etc. We have hardwood floors in the rest of the house, not sure if i should do the same in here. I love a relaxing room. One you can come into and kick your feet up, talk to friends, watch TV, hang out with family.

If you have hardwoods in the rest of the house, I'd suggest continuing that in this room.

Can you paint the wood above the fireplace to match your trim?

For furniture suggestions it would help to post a floorplan with dims.

Obviously the pano lens for realty pix has warped perspective a bit. At least with the TV on the longer wall you could watch from the breakfast nook. As I said above, I would float a sectional in the center of the room with one wing facing the TV on that big wall and the other facing the windows/view. The free standing wall would make a great spot for a tall piece of casegoods like a bookcase or secretary. Are you buying all new furniture or using what you have? Maybe we need to see pix of your stuff that you're contemplating using here.

Nice room. A much larger rug is a must. Exercise equipment to bedroom, office, basement or garage. Don't block the FP. Large art over the FP. Declutter the shelves (less photos, more large accessories).

"'Which one do you like best?" Honestly, I like the single 5 seater with the two swivel chairs the most because it is open and easy to access. You can always pull chairs in from the dining room table if you need more seating for folks. But the single couch with the two chairs is really nice, balanced and all you will need for your daily use. I do like the couch with the chaise as well for daily use but then I like being able to put my feet up or even recline in the evening while watching TV.

I bought a lamp that has a little bit of gra leopard because the couches are gray and love the lamp and pillows but I know I need more. I know the fireplaces bland with no color. And the pillows do now really go with lamp. Also I need something in corner where 2 pics are on wall

Painting the wood above the fireplace the color of all the trim in the house would be a good start. Perhaps also painting the brick walls a lighter color would be nice, and putting in hardwood floors throughout?

My husband really like the wood over the fireplace, so we are going to try to leave it ( for now). I have Grand kids so the room has to be "kid" friendly as far as furniture ( white will not work ). I like the idea for a lighter color on the wall ( any suggestions ) and the wood floor.
