Can I see pics of microwave in your island? My pic included.
Comments (6)First, congrats on building your new house! Very exciting. My MW drawer isn't in our island so no picture, but in addition to the electrical question I'm wondering: It looks in your picture like the island counter has an overhang of several inches on all 4 sides (can't tell for sure) and a corbel in the center of each side. Where were you planning on placing the MW? Under the corbel? That seems awfully low. Or were you thinking of having 2 corbels on either side of the MW space? That would make sense to me so it could be higher, but you wouldn't want much overhang above it. So my preference would be sink side, centered between 2 corbels, with only a standard counter overhang. For an under-counter MW, I really like having a drawer, so you can place and retrieve items from above. (That's personal preference though.) natevalsmom - beautiful kitchen! Love your colors, lights, valances, and especially that island counter....See MoreHELP! Need to dismantle and rebuild my center island
Comments (1)Usually the granite is just "secured" with dabs of silicone caulking around the perimiter. It all depends on how zealous the installers were. You can call in a company that installs granite, they should be able to handle that part. When the motor job is done, have them come back and reinstall it. You don't mention how big the top is. Comments (22)I agree with Beth and M.E. Light the island with 1 larger or 3 smaller clear or light toned pendants with a metal finish of your choice to match your theme or hardware, or hood, etc. Center it to the island, so that you can illuminate that work/visiting space. It looks like you can pull off 3, because your island looks larger. I am doing the same thing in my farmhouse kitchen right now. I have a very small island though, so will do only one medium sized pendant, and I have no real focal point in the kitchen, so I am going matte black with it, grey cabinets, white quartz countertops, and antique brass hardware. Good luck!...See MoreHELP! Off Centered Kitchen!!
Comments (10)Looking at the pendant lights it seems that you had an angled peninsula off the 56" wall. If you are not doing something different with the adjoining room I would keep the angled peninsula. If you don't have the dual height counters it will function much like an island. I had an 8' x 3' peninsula with bar stools between my kitchen and my family room in my last home and I would give my right arm to have that great space again. I used it for baking and serving and we ate most meals there. It also was great for projects and crafts. It was large enough for any type of prep work and the kids loved when we would bake and I would roll out the cookie dough and cut out the cookies and the girls would be on the other side of the counter and decorate the cookies as fast as I could produce them....See MoreUser
