Comments (8)I bet your parents are thrilled. This is a very pretty and warm combination. Looking forward to seeing the other features as they go in. When it comes to your backsplash try lining the area with something like solid colored wrapping paper or tissue paper in several shades to help inform you which way you might want to go with light or dark. Get this, I just put in a light marble mosaic, and I have a dark green painters paper over for curing purposes per instructions. I prefer the darker painters paper to what I put up!!!! I did a nice tile job too. Though, I am not taking it out I will have to shift my ideas of deco. Oh, and when you look at colors for intensity and balance with other elements, squint your eyes as you look. I was taught this by a paint saleswoman at a very fine woodworking retail store. It works. The squinting takes away the color in our vision but leaves the gray scale intensity. It really gives an idea with darkness and lightness without the added tricks that color can play on us. After what I experienced today with my tile I think I am going to post what I just posted to you about my experiences. Thanks for posting your progress in your kitchen and helping us stimulate our creative juices!...See MoreEngineered wood versus Plywood Cabinets?
Comments (2)I'm not sure if this is an option with HD brands but I know with Kraftmaid (Lowe's brand) you can pick and choose which cabinets have plywood sides to help save on cost. Any cabinets with exposed sides, sink base cabinet and cabinet next to the dishwasher are the best ones. Hope this helps....See MoreLaminate countertops-light versus dark?
Comments (16)Thank you very much try hard and cordovamom. Hmmmmmm, I think we may be coming to a consensus here...well, until someone else pipes in with a totally different take on this. Sounds like PATTERNED laminate will be fine...solid dark colors could be iffy. What I've noticed with this solid dark green laminate is that there is a ring from the cup, then I wipe up the water and buff, and then there is still a ring. Later, though, it does seem to disappear. But, what if I have too many Chardonnays one night, throw water and whose knows what else on my dark laminate kitchen countertops, and then don't get around to clean-up till the next morning? I'm not saying this has ever happened before (HA!), but it could. Cordovamom, I have your deepstar fossil sample in my hand...it was my cabinet guy's choice. My cabinets will be Decora and they are a cream color (not white) with what I would call a rust glazing. Actual name is Antique Bronze. For some reason I want a solid color medium to light brown laminate. Haven't found one I like yet, but with this info, I might just go to more of a patterend choice. Thank you all for your time and especially for the pictures...they are worth a thousand words....See MoreJAN MOYER
