Repair, Don't Replace, Old Wood Windows
Comments (154)Mary, Are you referring to window restoration or just sealing up some existing windows? The two are going to be very different type professionals. If it it just sealing up some exterior trim on windows, a decent painter can do that. If its window restoration, that is a different ball of wax. Window restoration is a very niché marketplace. The best thing to do is start with a Google area search near your home and especially in those areas that are more heavily concentrated in older homes. Next would be to ask around any of the historic districts that are in your area and see who they might have a list for. Hope this helps....See MoreCleaning Service- Typical Or Acceptable Arrival Time Window
Comments (32)I would not use a service. I like knowing who is in my house at any given time. Plus, I would rather the cleaner get to keep all the money rather than the service taking a big chunk. We have a separate code on our keypad lock for her, which I put on and take off per her schedule, so it doesn't matter to me what time she comes. But she is usually punctual, and if she will be radically off schedule, she texts me. I also prefer not being home when she cleans. We have had the same person for many years. She was referred through a friend who vouched for her work ethic and honesty. We did have someone in the past who stole jewelry from me. I appreciate not having to worry with our present person. Our present cleaner used to come during the week, but got a full time job a few years ago and now comes on Saturday. We are the only clients she kept when she got her new job, and I am thrilled not to have had to find someone new. I preferred it when she came on weekdays while I was at work, rather than me having to clear out of the house on a Saturday. But I really don't want to be there while she's working and I'm sure she would rather that I am not underfoot....See MoreNo ceiling lights
Comments (12)Even grander technology - Amazon Alexa or Google Home and smart wifi plugs. The ones I prefer are TP-Link HS105 (HINT: The exact same plug is sold exclusively by Walmart as TP-Link KP100 for a tad cheaper). You can also set on/off schedules and "routines". There's nothing easier than walking into my dark bedroom and say "Alexa, turn on the lights." I can also control them from anywhere in the world with a phone app. At first a scoffed at the idea! And thought how lazy can you be. But once I tried 'em, I love 'em. And this is coming from someone who doesn't need to hire an electrician for anything - I'm capable and qualified of doing whatever I need. I grew up with a father who was an electrical contractor for 60+ years. He was adamant that by the time me and my siblings were adults, all of us would have the knowledge, skill and experience of completely wiring a house from top to bottom. Those countless summer vacations and Saturday's working with him is the gift that keeps on giving. Thanks Dad! RIP....See MoreReplacement Windows - KC Area
Comments (0)We recently moved into a new house and about half the windows are original (20 years old). The other half have already been replaced with insert window replacements (can't find a brand name on the windows - see label below). All windows are white vinyl inside and out. What would be a good brand to look at to replacing the remaining windows? Any recommendations on window installers in the Kansas City area? THANKS!
