Bathtub reno keeping existing tile floor
Comments (4)Thank you for the responses. We are hoping (and the plan) was we can keep the existing flooring. Concern is that the tub front "needs" to be on the floor, or is the weight all in the feet, which will be in mortar? As well the flanges are all level and are structurally sound...See MoreFireplace Tile Dilemma - change it or keep it
Comments (10)I understand being disappointed, as you had a certain image in your mind, but I really do think it looks great as is. And I’m seeing some sort of cut out areas on either side? If so, you might be glad the fireplace sides are smooth. Not as busy a look so close to other room features. But … only you can decide this. If you think it will always bother you, get it fixed the way you want it....See MoreUPDATE :) Keep this shower tile as stacked vertical?
Comments (46)I love the color combination. The tiling job is probably very good, but I think this shows how modern lighting codes that have over head lights in showers make it very tough for even good tile setters. The grazing light on the tiles really magnifies any tiny bits of lippage or tile irregularity that would be invisible with direct light. I bet all the photos in magazines avoid overhead lighting to make the results look as flat as possible....See MoreTub Dilemmas to keep or not to keep?
Comments (11)No need for a tub in a master bath since there is a tub available in the event anyone wants a house with a tub. The market is more likely to contain buyers who don't bathe and would love a beautiful walk in shower versus those who want a tub in their master. Hire a designer who has knowledge of both bathroom design AND designs that function well for elderly people. I remodeled with aging in place in mind and my designer was very helpful in terms of stuff I hadn't considered. FWIW in my experience in a condo high rise as well as with my parents and friends, most older people don't need a wheel chair. They might need a walker for stabiity but generally with a walker are able to use a shower - even with a curb. Many people might have help specifically during showering since Medicare will provide an aide for that even if a person doesn't need full time aid. Build a large shower and do have one with a comfortable bench. Mine has one built in and also has an additional hand held by the bench which can be accessed without snaking the handheld across the shower and also while sitting. I have an overhead and hand held at the other end and the second hand held by the bench. Free standing stools or seats that are stable enough are large and take up too much of room in the shower and are difficult to clean around - and where do you put them if people don't need one when they shower? Also some of the obvious - sufficient grab bars in the shower - at the entrance to help balance when entering and exiting the shower and in the shower to grab easily if necessary. Good lighting for safety is also critical. Because of Code in California bathrooms have to have lights that turn on and off based on motion detection but it is also a great thing for older people because the lights will turn on in the bathroom at night when you walk in and so you avoid any tripping hazard....See MoreRelated Professionals
