If you could give your teenage son one book on sex...
Comments (12)I think it hard to know what book your kids may like without knowing your morality about sex. Are you wanting to preach abstinence before marriage, sex only with love (you may even need to go into a deeper understanding of what real love means to you), or are you just after a precationary/safe sex education for your kids? I would go to Amazon and type in something like "teenagers and sex" and read some of the explanations and comments on the books listed until you find one that is close to your thinking. I too would recommned talking to your sons over getting a book. I go on walks to talk with my sons, but I know/realize not all families feel comfortable with talking about sex. If you really don't think you can bring yourself to talk about sex, a book may help a little. Maybe it will even help spark some discussion on the matter. I also find commented about things happening on tv may help teach kids values. Your comments, thoughts, and even judgements on the subject may help educate. If you see people casually having sex (not like in a porn but like a night time soap opera) you can say stuff like..."Didn't she JUST meet him in a bar?, I certainly hope he's using a condom since AIDS can be deadly, He shouldn't be cheating on his wife; that's just awful". Don't just let things you watch slide, use the shows as an educational tool of (usually) what not to do. Laugh about the Herpes adds and add comments like, "It only takes one time or I'd hate to have tell a girlfriend I had herpes; that's why they make condoms"....See Morebesides the obvious, what can give off CO
Comments (10)I just re-read the replies, and when I read Brickeyee's post I thought to myself: But that's why I find it so strange, because I know that nothing is burning in the house! On second thought, could a fire be starting behind the walls, without any other signs? I know for sure that no lights are flickering (they're all incandescent and almost every circuit in the house has at least 1), there are no receptacles that are humming or hot to the touch, and everything in the house performs as it should. I also mapped all circuits in the house when I was a kid as part of a scouts project, and that map is still taped to the breaker panel door, so I am 99,999% sure that no circuit is overloaded. Also, I know what an arcing electrical connexion smells and that smell is not present, or at least I can't smell it, nor do I smell anything abnormal in or outside the house. Could the CO detector be intermittent, and it happened to "function properly" when I brought it to my house? Thanks....See MoreThanksgiving Tables - show me yours, give me ideas for mine
Comments (24)Things got very hectic with Thanksgiving, Black Friday sales, etc. but I did want to take a moment to thank everyone for sharing their tables and to show you what I decided with mine. lv_r_golden: I'm swooning over the fall leaf theme--which gave me some inspiration for my kids' table. ladypat: Your small votive candles around the table make it look so warm and inviting. I tried to recreate that look, but didn't work for me, though, at last minute. Perhaps next year. gsciencechick: Lovely crystal! Do post pics of your new french doors. awm03: I'm in love with your dining room. The pairing of that table and chairs is truely inspirational. Joann: Your daughter has a lovely home and table. I'm so envious of her large dining room table! I ended up following Linda's advice to arrange the pumpkins on a tray. I added the fall leaves and pinecones that my DDs collected and came up with this: The I added a bouquet of flowers to the buffet: Here is what I came up with for the kids' table: Mine 9-year-old DD helped to arrange the leaves and pinecones for their centerpiece: Remember my friend who added a last minute guest? She gave me the prettiest hostess gift of two bird candles. I added them to my pumpkin centerpiece like so: I am now wondering how I can update this centerpiece for a Christmas look. I think I can use the birds and pinecones, but I need to swap out the pumpkins and leaves for something else. Any suggestions? Also, what can I do with the pumpkins now when I am done for them?...See MoreNortherns: What else besides Citrus among your fruits?
Comments (38)The coffee plants have lovely leaves, and the persimmon tree looks beautiful with all of that ripened fruit on the tree. I have been looking into getting one and doing some research on different varieties and what would do well in a container but my space is limited . Tropic, what a lovely jackfruit plant. I hope you had a lovely time in India. I currently have figs, bananas, olives and pomegranate growing in containers. A few years ago, I had a couple of lovely coffee plants growing in containers under the shade of my tall banana trees in the gh, but they eventually struggled due to neglect on my part. Shhh..Don't tell my pomegranate that they are supposed to be deciduous.. They have kept most of their leaves throughout the winter and shed just a small percentage. The dwarf variety had set a few buds and blooms briefly during the middle winter months and last summer they did produce small fruit.....See MoreBonnie
