Used Sub Zero or new Electrolux refrigerator

I bought 2 used Sub Zero 30” refrigerator/ freezer for our new home, my husband wasn’t happy that I purchased a used unit but I know we can’t afford a new one. I might go back to original idea of Electrolux full size freezer and refrigerator just wondering what everyone else would do? I have 1 plugged in the garage and it is so nice keeps everything so cold. The Electrolux would have more room in the freezer but the refrigerator area is about the same

Wow, that's incredible. Smoking hot deals. I would love to get one of those Miele 18" dishwashers for my wet bar to replace my 11 year old 18" Miele (still works but eventually it will break and replacement is $1,600). $20 is a steal, they are giving them away. Wish I lived in Vegas! I'm speechless, great deals. You are getting an entire kitchen for less than the price of a single appliance.

How old is the Sub zero? Mine has lasted 30 years with occasional maintenance. I had not heard of an Electrolux refrigerator.

Tough Call. Let me tell you a secret. You can buy any handle from any brand if you're doing a panel refrigerator vs. stainless. I would look into Miele or Thermador handles. No one would ever know Check it out on the link im gonna put up & look at the aceesories of there fridges & call AJ Madison. Im not sure they sell handle if you dont buy the fridge there. Nice , but it seems to me there are going to be design issues with the new generation because of the new hinges and the door opening arc , and also that they will be a retrofit nightmare in some instances.

I have the exact same problem - and I have been going back and forth with sub zero customer service for months. They do their best like help find a tech and give a small manufacturer credit for the service call (though I still pay the lions share). They try to stand behind their products but it’s a C at best. Caveat being that I suspect a lot of it is in installers and dealers fault for which sub-zero can’t necessarily take all the blame. But honestly at the end of the day; I’m stuck with a 5500 unit that has now had a few expensive $$ service calls which can be heard throughout an open plan house AND even from outside the front door. The techs always say the same thing when they come to the house - that’s how it’s supposed to sound. I get between 52-58db at 10‘ distance from the unit. I have 2 friends with these units and they are silent so I guess I got unlucky - just wish sub zero would even sell me one at their cost - I’d pay for the install. I’d say buyer beware/find a really good dealer before taking the plunge. My sub zero fridge is silent (though has trouble with the air filter system) and my wolf stove’s control module failed after about 150 uses. So I haven’t had great luck with them.

I would go for the SZ. Those refrigerators are built to last and can be repaired. You may want to contact your local SZ repair person and ask for an appraisal, like you would before buying a used car, so you know what to expect repair wise with your unit.

Though not quite as impressive as 30 years, like JDS, I’ve had my SZ for a long time (a mere 18 years) and it’s nearly flawless.

A word of caution regarding the garage placement of one of the units: depending on your climate, that could be a not-so-good idea. Take a look at the specs for the unit and make sure your garage is a hospitable environment.

My garage has AC so it is ok it is very hot here so need AC everywhere. My husband had never heard of Sub Zero but I was able to buy the 2 for 500.00 each. My husband thinks they are used and didn’t want them but he is very impressed with the temperature of his beer. I think I will go with the Sub Zero. Thanks everyone

They still have the cabinet panels so I will have to talk with my cabinet people to get panels for them.

If they look generally in good shaped (as in, nobody obviously abused them) and if you got them for such a cheap price, I think you made the right call. Our Subzero eventually got kicked out at 25 years, and it probably would have limped on for a little longer. It had developed a problem with the condensation collection system, and the service technician unfortunately had no idea how to fix it. This was (very slowly) causing the bottom to get damaged. But at 25 years and very little maintenance in the meantime, I didn't have any regrets. It had had a good run.

If your fridge is only 7 years old, you should get at least another 15 years of use out of them; possibly more. That's more than I would expect you'd get out of the Electrolux. And you'd have to spend an extra ~$3000 for the privilege of buying an inferior product.

I got used SZ - 36” all freezer and all fridge and was looking at the Electrolux and the side kicks too. Sorry, but I’m thrilled with them. 601s and I think they’re about 10 years old. I’ve had them running for a year with absolutely no issues. My food lasts longer in them and that saves me a ton of money. Nothing like them on the market, and no, I don’t have the extra 14k lying around for the pair. I don’t regret this decision one bit.

Woah, how on Earth did you find those for $500 each?!?!!! What state are you in? That is an amazing deal, in my area (DC area) those 7-8 yesterday old units would probably be at least $3,000-4,000 bare minimum each. Envious! Great find!

I am in Las Vegas they came out of a hotel Suite I also got 2 Miele ovens for 100.00 each and I don’t think anyone ever cooked in them. They have Miele dishwasher’s too and they are going for about 20.00 each but they are only 18”

Wow! Lucky! Sometimes the contract on those hotels includes disposal, so the contractor would rather sell them than have to haul them to the dump. Everyone wins!
