want to update my chandelier without spending a lot
Comments (21)There are all kinds of ideas here to get you thinking, but let me ask you a couple of questions. 1. What kind of updating do you want? Let me give you a couple of options, maybe you want a fixture which is lighter to brighten the room up a little, or maybe a style change is what you're after. 2. What size is your dining table? I think I can see it is a round table with an extension. When you sized your light fixture was it with the table without the extension or with it in place, and how do you normally keep the table, most of the time. Rule of thumb is 1.5 to 1.75 the width of your table with a distance of 30" to 32" above. Since your table and light are working together that would be the harmony you're after. There are a number of very nice new options which would be within your budget if you wanted to replace. However the fixture is not in isolation, keep in mind the other elements in the room to maintain a harmony. Changing the shades out for something lighter could be a economical way to start and of course if you don't like them as long as they don't get marked up you can return them to the store. Then start thinking of a bigger change. Good thing to remember is the more reflective or light surfaces will bring more light into any space, regardless if the fixture is lit or not....See MoreWant exterior update while maintaining brick...feeling overwhelmed
Comments (48)Wow Celery...your renderings are very cool. Definitely helps to visualize. Love the look over cover above but regretfully conflicts with the window over front door and as much as I would like a taller door, cannot change this at this time. I would like to remove the oversized columns and free up some space on the bricked patio...add planters left and right of door. I love Amy Lynns suggestions for new lighting. Attaching a photo of corbels that I thought might be workable with existing cover minus the dental moulding that is there. Either these or squared columns cut in half against the brick to free up some room on patio...maybe keeping trim lighter in color except the darkening gutters and downspouts...partly to keep cleaner looking...they get sooo dirty..thoughts?...See MoreNeed help updating/modernizing blue colonial without painting siding
Comments (9)I think black is a better color for the shutters too. The little light house is very cute. I would leave that, but, add a bunch of colorful plants in that flower bed. You could use some pots of color in front, and some colorful furniture on the front porch. Also a nice bright color on your front door. The landscaping is basically just round mounds, and could definitely be improved on....See MoreOut of the 90's without painting the brick?
Comments (5)I hope other people chime in. I’m definitely not an expert, but I thought French country when looking at your house. Maybe search for some inspiration? I like the brick, but I think your home would also look great with a lime wash or German smear (it may go by another name too). I think the shutters could be a paler blue or pale green. I don’t have ideas for the front door and sidelights, but maybe having an overall inspiration will guide you. Also, I think landscaping would do a lot here (more than changing the brick)....See Moreredsilver
