The Proven Winners (am I allowed to say that?!?) website says to pinch 20% of Supertunia Vista Bubblegum back around July 4th and they will fill back out in two weeks. I am trying that this year. I pinch back like every fifth branch or so. I like them because they grow like crazy and otherwise I just feed occasionally and water. No regular deadheading required.

I have just enough deadheading roses, watering and sweeping the roof deck. I am not complaining, it is so nice to be outside to enjoy everything.

Barbara, I used to live in Mountlake Terrace for 6 years. I sure miss that great Seattle weather. When I lived there I was on the 3rd floor with a balcony. I enjoyed growing plants and flowers on my balcony certainly nothing like what you have achieved but it was pretty cool.

At my current home in addition to my yard I have 2 balconies and I love the roses that are right outside my kitchen door. They get lots of love and attention and I wouldn't want them to go in the ground because I would miss them.

Now that's an idea Carol!! I'm probably already known as the crazy plant lady:) It's a good thing I have to leave a path open or I'd have every inch covered. Neighbors come up on the Fourth to watch fireworks (hence the flag) and I need to leave room.

Most of the plants are from starts I learned how to do either from here or Youtube. An annual does not have to be annual. I put one "Mother" plant in the garage (in between my car and the wall) for the winter and go on from there. Easy peasy.

Glad you like them cyndita. They are pretty healthy, probably because they are four floors up and not so many crawly type bugs. Ooooh, I remember the slugs when I had a yard. Yuk! This is much tidier:)

Kristine, that's interesting you lived here and had a balcony garden. I give starts to the neighbors when they move in to get them interested in gardening. It's a waste of space not to have some plants if you have a balcony or deck.

I agree about giving the flowers more attention when you see them up close all the time. Thanks for the kind comments.

How many pots do you have there, Barbara? Do you water them by hand or do you have an irrigation system setup?

And if you go out of town for a few days for a vacation, who waters them?

I have around 12 or more roses in resin half barrels and then too many little pots of annuals, etc. I am gradually replacing the little pots and doing mixed half barrels. This is the most flowers I've had up here, they just grew and grew!

I don't have an irrigation system but if I lived anywhere warmer I would set one up. This is such a mild, marine climate that it's only four months of watering and then mainly July and August do I water every day or every other day. I enjoy watering by hand. When I was taking the pictures above I noticed I hadn't put the hose away:) Oops!

I have a fuchsia by the door and one by a window and if they are wilting it's time to pay attention to watering. They are two and a half feet across. I leave a full watering can by them so I can give them quick drinks:)

When I go on vacation I have several neighbors in the building that will water for me. I have always offered to look after their cats when they are on vacation and I always share my roses throughout the summer. They are very kind.

Barbara - and then you post another gorgeous picture!!!! Stunning!! And then I see your fushcias!! Sooooo many amazing blooms!!! Wow!
