undesireable results from paint sprayer
Comments (2)Thanks paintguy. These shelves are a low grade wood, pretty rough with knot holes, etc. but they had been painted before and I'd guess a semi-gloss or maybe high gloss. They still have a sheen just scratched, chipped and dinged. After spraying the shelf lightly about three times, they feel really rough rather than the smoothness that gloss paint gives, like it has raised the wood fibers and still has the dull/shiney spots. I'll sand it down and wipe it real good tomorrow before giving it a couple of new thin coats. If it's rough again, I assume it's something wrong with the sprayer or my technique. I know I'm doing very light coats because I haven't seen any spots where the paint has run or sagged. I really don't care about these shelves as they won't be seen, just want to get the technique and experience before I try to do a furniture piece or my 20+ louvered doors, lol! Those I do want to look really nice....See MoreEasy Track brand shelving or martha Stewart in pantry?
Comments (3)We just had Martha Stewart closet systems put in both our master closets (one narrow walk in and one reach in), so I can't speak as to the durability yet. But they look great, function perfectly, and are easily adjustable. I considered using the corner shelving in the walk in, but decided against it for the use of space that I needed. Although I did like that that the corner shelves can be shortened in length. One thing to note is that the installation of the top shelves of the unit is by shelf brackets, which I wasn't crazy about. So we had every other top shelf screwed into place and the alternating ones are in place by the shelf brackets. Below is a pic of the walk in (as you can see, I needed more hanging space, which is why I opted not to go with the corner shelves): I can say that I never realized how much I would love a closet system. It has truly changed my life! Good luck to you....See MoreShelf liner for painted wood pantry shelves
Comments (9)I have a large walk-in pantry with painted shelves. I had trouble with shelf liner sticking to the paint, and curling up at the edges, so eventually I came up with a more permanent solution. I bought self-stick vinyl floor tiles with a smooth surface, and put them on the shelves. They are easy to cut and install, and very easy to clean. I liked the results so much I put them on every closet shelf in my house! I did consider putting laminate on the shelves, but I don't have the necessary tools to cut laminate, and for a pantry the size of mine it would have been quite expensive, especially if I had to pay for installation....See MoreShelving material (pantry and rest of house)
Comments (1)We are doing a custom build and the shelves for closets and mud room we are doing outside the contract. This is pretty standard for our builder (a very high end builder for our area). This opens up many options from wire, to California closets and in between. I'm most interested in the closet systems at The Container Store - elfa. Just waiting for a sale ;)...See Moredan1888
