I’ve been watching some on Fox News. I hope the entire operation is successful. So happy they are working to get them out.

Just the thought of being trapped like that makes me so uncomfortable, I can’t handle watching it on tv. I hope they all get out too but with one death already it’s a tragedy for that divers family either way which is so very sad. .

Reported six members out. Other half and coach to be out tomorrow.

I think they need to replenish oxygen tanks and possibly rest. After I posted this, I saw ten hour break.

I'm thrilled that they have been able to rescue at least some of them.

The number of kids keeps changing. Now I just saw four again. There was also a twelve, but someone said that was a mistake.

I also keep reading different numbers. Think I read media isn't allowed any where near so maybe that's why we arnt getting more info.

I hope they all make it out safely. It breaks my heart that one of the brave rescuers was killed the other day.

I wonder what will happen to the coach. He showed extremely poor judgement in letting the kids go into the caves but he also kept them safe and alive after they were stranded.

I think many of us across the world are waiting, hoping, and praying for the safe rescue of all these boys, the coach and all the rescue people.

It's been a good long while since I've woken up to such happy news! These kids and their rescuers have been in my mind constantly and many prayers have been said.

I heard on the news that it takes the pair of divers 5 hours just to reach the boys, then they get him outfitted with diving equipment and then 5 hours back out to safety. Last I heard there were 4 out with the first 2 transported to the hospital. It's a heroic rescue and my hopes are that they can get them all out safely.

I think they will go easy on the coach. Some parents have spoken up and said they don't blame him. He is said to have lost his family to some some sort of disease I think when he was ten. His aunt turned him over the monks. Then the soccer people became his family.

I have few words, only that all come out of this safely. Prayers going forth for all involved and for their families and for the rescuer that was killed. May our heavenly Father be with his family and comfort them. Extremely sad.

Adela, what the he!! does all of that have to do with using such extremely poor judgment? An older diving instructor was interviewed and said that they would never allow anyone under the age of 18 into that type of cave. And I would presume that extensive training would also come under that criteria.

Wantoretire, I only know what I've read or seen on tv. This cave apparently doesn't normally close for the season until July. Monsoon season came early this year. I don't know if there was a legal age limit for that cave. I don't know if anything was marked. It wasn't uncommon for the soccer players to be there in there. They weren't forced to be there. Three kids had gone home instead of going inside. The group was originally near the front of the cave, but the waters came in fast. They had to keep moving back to get away from it.

The coach made a mistake. He's human.

I hope they are able to get the rest of the boys and their coach out tomorrow. It's 6:45p.m. on Sunday night in California which means it's 8:45a.m. Monday morning in Thailand. Additional boys should be coming out soon if all goes well.

Well, shoot. Just read an update and it appears the rescue operations have been suspended for a day or two because the rescuers are having difficulty obtaining additional oxygen tanks. That's some poor planning, there.

Just read this, "The four boys rescued are recovering in a nearby hospital and are yet to see their parents. A family member told CNN Monday that they hadn't been told which boys had been pulled out, and who is still trapped in the cave."

Wow, obviously different culture. Here we will bring parents into resuscitation area during active treatment, including CPR, if parent desires to be with their child (and most do). Getting parents to the childs side ASAP is a high priority, it is thought to be beneficial for both child and parent.

Adella, thé age limit of 18 I referred to was the minimum set by an instructor of his students, not necessarily a legal limit. To say that the coach « made a mistake » is a gross understatement. If the remaining children don’t make it out, the ones who have been rescued could end up with survivors’ guilt in addition to any other problems. A sad prospect. Did the coach have ANY caving experience? I doubt it, or he wouldn’t have done something so incredibly stupid.

I'm puzzled. Elon Musk said he'd help, and I'm sure others do too, so why couldn't this be done more quickly?

Eight boys are out. The rescuers only rested a few hours before resuming. The pause was to get more oxygen to the ones remaining. There was no talk of not enough oxygen tanks being an issue.

There was talk (I read it on CNN) about the oxygen level where the boys are being only 15%, and the health risks and issues that that can cause. I can't find that exact report now, but this excerpt is from another report:

"One of the major concerns is oxygen right now. They've been in an area where oxygen levels are low," Dr. Darria Long Gillespie of the University of Tennessee School of Medicine told CNN.

"As soon as they get out, that's what they'll be checking: their oxygen levels and their breathing".

They will also be checked for malnutrition, dehydration and an array of other health effects.

This is from the CNN update I read yesterday:

As of early Monday morning local time, rescue efforts were suspended in
Thailand as teams restocked supplies and prepared to get the rest of the
team out of the cave. CNN's Jonathan Miller reported that the eight
boys and coach who remain stranded in the cave would likely have to stay
put for a couple of days due to issues restocking oxygen supplies.

Thai Cave Rescue Update as of 7/8/18

I am very happy to learn that either that report was erroneous or that the rescue operation was able to obtain the needed supplies. The most important thing now is that most of the boys are out. I hope the rescue of the remaining boys and their coach goes well and all are soon reunited with their families.

Mamapinky, I saw that report too. Another source has listed names and photos of boys. I think there is just a lot of miscommunication.

This is mainly directed at wanttoretire, but I thought it was interesting to hear the reason the boys and their coach were in the cave initially. This was on the news this morning.

Apparently they went in after practice because they were in the area, and it is a ritual of sorts to run in, write your name on the wall at the end, and then run out. Obviously, they had no idea the cave would flood, and didn’t realize the threat of rain would cause them to literally have to run for their lives to high ground within the cave. Yes, in retrospect a bad choice, but unintended consequences for something innocently conceived. This cave is apparently visited by many.

We have caves, both horizontal and vertical, all over the area here. In my younger days, I went in a lot of them as part of our local caving group. I was also part of the cave rescue group, and believe me, there were, and still are, cave rescues all the time because people go in unprepared or simply have accidents, even when experienced.

Another legal eagle talked about ‘attractive nuisances’ which I am sure mostly applies legally in the U.S., not so sure about other countries. I have no idea if this cave is even on private property.

Outside, I appreciated the explanation. Hopefully this ordeal will alert people to the danger of a supposed harmless activity.

Yay! They are out! I agree, Chi. The rescue was difficult, so congratulations to all those involved in that task. And thanks to the medical staff who is treating them. It must be hard on all since they are using caution before allowing any interaction with their parents and families due to risk of infections.

I think there are 4 more rescuers still in there. I hope they make it out safely.

Great news! All of them were so brave, I just can't imagine being underground for that long.

ladypat, I had the same thought. He was the one meant to be with them. They needed him.

I read somewhere else that the Thai don’t seem to be a particularly litigious society, so my feeling is there won’t be anything further to this other than gratitude. Different world.

I think he will be fine. He gave up food for the kids and kept them together and calm.

We will see if this version of the story " Cave Nightmare" holds up. It says the boys went in on their own and the coach went looking for them because they were missing. He taught them meditation which helped them through the ordeal.

One thing I wondered about is the sometimes lack of a common language. How did the team members communicate and share ideas, concerns and knowledge about how to get the boys out. Maybe there were translators.

Just heard this morning that the last rescuers escaped just in time as the pumps failed and the tunnel began to fill up quickly. That seems very odd to me that it would fail at the last minute, and there should have been backups.

There is always misinformation during these events, so in time we will get a more accurate story, maybe.

I've read the coach spoke four languages. We know there has been a lot of miscommunication based on the news stories. Some of that may just be due to bad journalism on the part of the reporters just cranking stuff out.

I believe it was one of the boys, one who is technically without a state recognition, who speaks those languages. He acted as translators to the rescuers.

It was one of the boys for certain. The other boys kept telling him eat, eat! and he said, I've told them already. Broke my heart. Hope they get as much as they want now.

The news this morning is saying several of the boys have pneumonia. They are responding well to treatment. Also that they were sedated, to calm them before trying to get the boys out.

I LOVE HAPPY ENDINGS! They ALL seem to be doing well and I hope it continues.

Since they didn't know how to swim, possible they aspirated some of the water during swimming lessons, causing pneumonia. Also read masks used were adult size, "pulled tight" to prevent leaks. Considering undernourished and stressed condition, not too surprising. Just a thought.

I've read a lot of conflicting information. One report said they were more than lightly sedated. Who knows what is true? They did what they had to do to save them. Just glad they are out and recovering. I hope their health continues to improve and they can put this behind them.

I have seen bits and pieces about the rescue. It amazes me the challenges they had. So glad it went so well.

@ socks, Sedating can be tricky, especially when treating children who may be malnourished/ dehydrated. You give a dose intending for "light sedation," and the child ends up "snowed." In the ED, we just monitor closely for longer; not so easy in a cave - without monitoring equipment. Yes, oversedation (if it happened) may have also contributed to aspiration & pneumonia.

We just watched the special show on this that we recorded. It was a very well done show with good explanations and video of rescues.
