Need track/pendant lighting over huge island, suggestions? PICS
Comments (7)We used hanging pendants made by Roost. They only sell to wholesalers who then retail them. We bought ours locally, via our builder, from a design center so got a deal. Don't know hwat you can find in your area, but I have provided an online link below. We also used the Edison-reproduction, multi-filament bulbs they show in the pic. They are about 11 bucks each w/ shipping, but look waaaaaaay cool, esp. when dimmed, and provide all the light you need when at full power. If you go that way, order some spares. We have not had a burnout in 4 years, but we do not use them daily. Also, we did not want a track sitting across our ceiling to steal the eye away from the task lighting hanging below. There is seating for 3 on the right side of the L. Here is a link that might be useful: Roost retailer link...See MoreIsland pendant lighting suggestion
Comments (6)Do you want a similar shape? How about color? I was thinking just a single shade (fabric) pendant. However, that won't play as nicely with your chandelier pendant in the dining. You could get a number of different types of pendants (urn style, mini lantern, mini chandy without shades) or just a simple glass pendant in a similar shape as your current pendants. Maybe if you give us more info on what you are going for and like....See Morependant lighting suggestions
Comments (18)Well...these all are some nice pendants. But the issue not what's a nice pendant, the issue is lighting design: what needs to be illuminated and how best? Let's revisit the subject of lighting: there's three types of lighting and each is very good for what it does: 1) ambient (overall lighting in a space); 2) task lighting (lighting of very specific and often used working areas), and 3) feature lighting ( designed more to be seen and give a welcoming warm glow than to illuminate anything specific). Well designed spaces generally need all three types of lighting--not just one! For example, in vinmarks photo above, with a great many pendants which only illuminate downwards in a rather narrow beam (look at the opaque metal tops to all the fixtures), the space has lots of "down" light, but the only ambient lighting appears to be that which bounces up off the floor and illuminates things from the bottom! Thus, there's lots of "task" lighting (if the pendants are located over work areas); a minor amount of ambient lighting; and zero feature lighting. Lighting is a highly creative endeavor and takes creativity and experience. There is no "one size fits all" solution! Good luck on your project....See MoreI'm looking for a pendant light for a small foyer.
Comments (2)Hi Alice! Usually the dimensions in the description are just the top to bottom of the fixture, not including chain. It can vary from brand to brand, so definitely make sure to ask about the specifics if you're really liking a certain item, but I've seen chain lengths anywhere from 5 feet to 10 feet included with a pendant. You (or your electrician/handyperson/installer) can definitely shorten the chain to suit your space's hanging height needs!...See MoreHome Interiors with Ease
