Do you have a Gel Mat?

I need to get a mat of some sort for our kitchen as we all are having leg pain after standing long periods on the hardwood floors. I want 2, one for the stove or prep area and one for in front of the sink. I have read good and bad on here. For those that have them, love them or hate them? Where did you get them? The brands that seem to keep coming up in threads are Gelpro and Wellness.

I have the Wellnessmat in Copper Granite since Nov and love them. Had tile in my old kitchen and my legs would ache after a day of cooking. Now I have LVT, 2 mats and no more aching legs. My mom bought some mats from BB&B (I don't remember the brand) and she thought her's were really nice until seeing mine. She said they were about double the thickness.

I got mine during a Macy's sale that they seem to run semi often. Amazon sometimes has open box ones for a decent/really good discount. I've bought lots of open box items on Amazon. If it isn't as described (doesn't happen often) it's easy to send it back.

I trip over them, LOL! My aunt has several and it never fails that I stumble around her kitchen when cooking. I'm sure you can get used to it but I chose a regular rug.

I love Amazon's warehouse deals. Definitely check those when shopping. BB&B coupons can be used when ordering at the store, instead of online, and they have a good return policy.

Someone on this group said that you could go to Bed Bath and Beyond and order the gel mats and use the 20% off coupon. That is exactly what I did as my store did not carry them in stock. When checking out, I was told the mat would ship to my home. I asked if there was a shipping charge. The gal said $9.95. I looked shocked and asked if it could be shipped to the store so I could pick-up without the shipping charge. She said no, but then offered to take the shipping off. I thought that was real nice. I have not received my mat yet so cannot give a thumbs up or down. I have had tile in my current kitchen for the last 15 years and always wondered why my feet and knees hurt when I stood and cooked for long periods of time. DUH! In my previous home, I had hardwood floors and certainly did not have the problem as much. I always just assumed I was getting older...which I am, and that's part of it. But, I do know it's not just my somewhat advanced feet and knee age. I need something to "cushion the blows" from the dad gum hard tile in my new lake place kitchen. I hope these gel mats help.

Thanks Theresa! I googled it and it brought up The Quilt Patch.They have some great ideas for placemats. I have a table runner that I made from a kit that I bought there. I have been there a few times but probably won't go there again. Since I moved,it's too far away. Linda OH

You may want to check out mats by Chilewich. They aren't cheap but I love, love, love her placemats and I have one of her mats by my back door (which catches all the dirt before I enter). The person at Sur La Table said they were very comfortable to stand on. Sur La Table only has certain ones of hers. You can check Chilewich on the web. They are more modern looking and expensive, but wear like iron!

I have the 72" GelPro mat over hardwood in my kitchen and I love it. Much, much better than the fabric mats that get dirty and have to be thrown out. I either vacuum or wipe it down. I highly recommend. HTH

I bought one just this week at Costco. It was $16. We like it so far. They only had two choices of colors (brown or burgundy).

Love mine, get them at Costco. They last about 4 years in the kitchen a much longer in the bathroom-I use one in front of vanity where I do my hair.

I've had expensive, but the Costco ones last about as long. (Spilling hot grease on them decreases lifespan...but regular rugs would be toast too!

I have Gelpro, pricey. After a couple of years the edges curl and they become tripping hazards. Not enough to get rid of them, but I’m more watchful. I would not buy Gelpro again. I think the “wanna be” alternatives are good enough and cheaper so if I tire of them, easy and painless to get replacements. With the Gelpro, I’ll have to keep until they fall apart. Must be careful with heels or pointy shoes as they can tear the vinyl layer. Must also be careful about not dropping sharp items like knives. They have definitely provided comfort so I will always have a gel-type rug by sink.

I stack two or three Ikea Tofto bathmats. Same cushioning effect, and just chuck 'em in the machine when they get grubby. They're available in lots of great colours, they're non-slip (but not with that icky rubberized backing), and dirt cheap.

I find the cats LOVE to sharpen their claws on any of those lovely gel mats, and they get sort of sticky after a while, plus they're not easy to keep clean, ime.

I have these from amazon and they’re great. I have one at the sink and another at the cooktop. I kind of want another in the laundry room.

Love mine. Current ones are wellness with beveled edge. Previous ones were gelpro basic model with more of an edge, and were lovely except after a few years the edges curled up. No curling at all with the beveled edge. Bought one from Costco for my daughter, only cost about $25 and has a 25 year warranty! They wear extremely well, wash very easily, and are very comfortable to stand on. They are much heavier than a rug, which makes the big ones a bit of a pain to move. But on the up side, they do not shift around on the floor at all. The curled edges became a bit of a tripping issue, but zero tripping issue on the beveled edge ones. Highly recommend.

This is the mat I bought in our local Costco store this week. Sorry there’s no brand label on it and I already threw away the packaging.
