hey mikey .. welcome.... see you are a newbie.. come back often ... first thing i think of with junipers is tip blight ... you have chosen one that is said to be resistant ... great!!! .. moving past that ... i tend to always think of diversity .. a long line of any plant.. exposes you to infestations that will take out the whole line.. like tip blight ... deer specificity ... so even if you like the blue ... think about planting something besides a juniper as every other plant ... maybe something like the old standard arb or green giant .....but then you have that deer issue .... please do understand .... that deer will eat anything if times get rough enough .... so even deer resistant junipers might be threatened ... now.. once you get past that issue ... if you are in snow load areas... obtaining single leader trees can become very important ... individual plants can shed snow .... when you get a plant has has multiple leaders ... then snow can accumulate inside them.. and cause big parts of your upright trees to fall over ... over the last 10 years ... i have gotten rid of most of my junipers because of the tip blight issues ... though i bought them for their names.. rather than that quality .... so i can not speak exactly to what you ask about .. there are some fastigate .. upright growing ... blue spruces.. that might be even more resistant to deer [those needles are just down right mean sharp] ... see link below for P. pungens Iseli fastigate .. i hope our other peeps can add some other suggestions .... good luck ken Here is a link that might be useful: link

Thanks, I'll call the local Cornell Extension office. I live on Long Island, NY. Technically, I'm zone 6 (although some maps say zone 7 - NO WAY!), but the problem is we have extremely erratic Spring weather, which has caused zone 6 / 7 plants to die. Basically, our "winters" are not so bad, but then all of a sudden it jumps to 70 degrees for a couple weeks in March and then plummets to below freezing, AFTER many plants have awakened, and that kills zone 6 / 7 plants here, so except for very protected locations I stick with zone 5 plants. This happens almost every year. It is a Whopping 80 degrees today! This is totally INSANE!!! It should not be this hot for another 2 months. This has been the worst weather ever - it is supposed to fall back into the 40's in a few days (thank goodness; I hate the heat). The tree service swears that the Arborvitaes will come back - but they have literally gone from half brown a few weeks ago to almost completely brown now. They have a vested interest in spraying, so why would they tell us that they won't come back? Honestly, even if they will EVENTUALLY come back, they look like crap and unless they miraculously turn green like the scene of poppies in the Wizard of Oz, I don't think it is worthwhile. Oh yeah, I checked the list - it is Garlic Juice, not oil that they spray for Leafminers. They also circled Potassium Salts for spider mites I didnÂt see any spider mites and they attack Alberta Spruce, so I'm pretty sure I don't have an infestation. At this point I think they just want to spray for EVERYTHING and charge for it. I'm going to call Cornell because I desperately need to talk to an actual Horticulturist.

Well forget that question, I already removed the middle one. So now there are 2 left spaced 5 ft. apart. I prefer them to retain their pyramidal shape, but be next to eachother. Do I need to dig one up and move it to be spaced 4 ft apart? I have read conflicting info on the growth rate and width of Blue Point Juniper , does anyone know how wide they get with minimal pruning? Or I am thinking instead of planting some Emerald Green Arborvitae I have which is what I originally wanted there. But they are only 4 ft. tall, and they seem like slower growers, so it would take almost 5 years to extend over the fence(at 6" a year) Suggestions? Thanks!

i wouldnt even waste the time to use them somewhere else.. they are past there prime... and general PIAs ...trust me on this.. its all downhill for them ... juniper tip blight.. juniper rust.. mites on the DAS ... crikey ... see above re: pia ... lol .. the only use for them.. is if you happen to have a very large fire pit ... and neighbors who might enjoy the whoomph... when they go up .. lol ... and for a nickle.. i will tell you how i really feel about them ... and if that lawn to the left is yours.. plant a nice tree out there.. instead of relying on the edge of the deck for privacy .. a nice redbud out there.. will work just fine ... maybe even add shade to the deck in 5 or 10 years .... i would go out at least 10 to 15 feet if you can ... and the tree will easily offset the loss of the other two in regard to mother earth balance .... ken
