Can you tell me the name of this Conifer tree and Shrub?
Comments (3)I'd go with Dave's call here but also add that there are many different cultivars of the Colorado Blue Spruce in addition to the straight species. You could encounter some of these at your nursery so, before you go, you might check out this reference (link) and select some from the pull down menu to brush up on possible selections. The typical Colorado Blue can get to be a big tree over time and if space is a problem in your yard, you may want to investigate dwarf or intermediate sized trees, weeping, prostrate or fastigiate forms. I'm sure you will find something to fit your site and budget. Here is a link that might be useful: Picea pungens cultivars...See MoreIdentification: Can anyone tell me what kind of succulent this is?
Comments (5)Thanks Harry. Indeed, nothing is wrong, amcknight4. I was simply commenting on the color, which is tending to brown from the usual purple-blue tones. It is getting lots of sunshine. Producing the recent inflorescence uses up limited metabolic resources. The number of dessicated leaves around the base tells me that this particular plant is doing what it needs to do to stay alive in the middle of summer with limited shade and water. It is recycling leaves. The increased rate of leaf senescence is accompanied by the familar colors of Fall. Growing plants hard means to grow more like habitat plants compared to pampered greenhouse specimens. It was a compliment, not a criticism, complaint, or call to arms. Comments (3)Fraser photinia. Lack of density is due to shaded planting site. I cut one back in a similar situation some years ago and then one of the leaf spot conditions affecting these in much of the U.S. during later years got on it right afterward. And then that was all she wrote. So many of them have been spoiled by leaf spot infestations in my area now that this previously ubiquitous landscape shrub has been effectively rendered obsolete here. If/when you get it there you will probably be removing this planting anyway - meanwhile I wouldn't put any time into an attempt at renovation pruning. If you can't reduce the source of the shading just continue with maintenance pruning (to control size) or replace with shrubs that are more shade tolerant. The best time to snip back any unwanted wandering branches produced by this shrub is mid spring....See MoreAddyBeez | CA, USA, Zone 9b
