Exterior window trim darker than windows?
Comments (3)Hi again, Here is the architect's elevation pic. The one above does not show the cladding material, and I just figured out how to send the architect's picture. This image does not show the window trim that we are planning around the windows on the siding part of house. After playing around with house visualizer sites, I am leaning towards the following body: greige - Quary stone board and batten house trim, soffits, facia, freize board - charcoal roof - charcoal (already done) windows - white (already done) window trim around door and siding windows - charcoal board and batten I think the greige has enough gray in it that pairing it with charcoal (not sure how dark of charcoal to go) should work. I wanted to also let you know that the front door will be changed to a 8 foot double door with 3/4 glass (hopefully this will tie in the deck door better). With the taller front door, the transom above will be shorter. Also there will be a bit more brick over garage than is showing. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance. Comments (6)The picture of the dark garage door and gutters with the white Windows and column make the house look as though you are in mid-renovation while changing from one color scheme to another. The most flattering color for trim or windows of a brick house is to match the mortar color. Look around at brick homes that look especially nice----you'll see that they look 1000x better when the mortar matches as closely as possible to the trim paint, garage, door, etc. So, my recommendation would be to paint all the trim to match your mortar color and get the door in the same color of paint it. I know people don't like to paint Windows, but if yours are on the second half of their mfg's guarantee period I wouldn't hesitate. I have a brick house and over the past ten years have painted the trim three times....it took me that long to figure it out!...See MoreNeed advice for how to handle garage windows trim
Comments (30)Lascatx, I definitely plan a major refresh on the landscaping next spring. When I had my lawn taken out in 2011 I had a landscape designer suggest plants and I went with all of them. Since then I removed 3 enormous phormiums and this and that. There are a few other plants I don't care for, so it will be time to rework some stuff. I do favor purple/magenta, white, and pops of gold/yellow, esp. against a gray house. When the poppies bloom in March/April, it's happy time. #3 now looks silly to me. Someone said it was like squinty eyes. I think the only way I could get away with not removing the angles of my garage opening would be to leave it all trim color. It doesn't look so cramped that way. I prefer the squared off door. I am planning to redo my outside lights, once the painting is done, maybe adding a couple on either side of the garage door. Plus house numbers. It's funny, thinking to minimize the presence of my prominent garage, but it's kinda hard to do when it's so, you know, prominent. I can't exactly hide it, so why not make it look nice?...See MoreQuartz slab backsplash transition around/to window trim
Comments (19)@diane7151 Thank you! We actually just went with the stock white through the semi-custom cabinet manufacturer, there was a warm white (too creamy) and ice type white, I wanted it crisp and didn't have a need for a custom white because the ice white sample looked good with all of our other swatches. The wall color is BM Pale Oak, with bright white trim, which helps the cabinets pop. I do think a custom paint job can provide a yummier texture and finish, just something I've thought about after the fact because we have a custom vanity in our master that seems smoother, but it's a rich blue gray which might be why it feels more luxurious? With white kitchen cabinets and two hound dogs...I'm sure the cabinets will need to be repainted at some point anyway LOL, so we'll see if a custom white feels any different....See MoreAngel 18432
