Comments (3)I'd wait for either the Duet Sport 3.6 with the heater due out in May or wait for the existing Duet to get the upgraded suspension(I have no idea when those will hit). The Sport with the heater, extra capacity and the six point second floor suspension would be my choice because I'm not sure any of those FL's with a decent suspension would be price comparable or very large in capacity. Unless you know exactly how strong your second floor is going to be many of the FL's have vibration problems and there are many posts about that on this forum. The sport was built to address those concerns. If you can't wait, don't want a heater, and can live with the 3.3 capacity the first Duet Sport is being released this month...in fact one poster said they saw them in Lowes...but confirm they have the six point suspension cause that one seems to be up in the air ( different folks haven't agreed on that one yet). It;s been posted the price on the 3.3 is between $800-$900. I looked at Bosch, Siemens, HE's and every single one talks about floor support, solid surface ( in fact Bosch will sell you floor brackets to bolt their machine down). All these are supposed to be good machines but on a second floor I'd be worried about vibration...so I'd take a look at the Sport...good price, decent size, second floor suspension...only negative is it's new....See MoreHow to fix squeeky floor
Comments (2)If you've got access to the bars subfloor, try deck screws into the joists. That will tighten it all up and screws, unlike nails, won't pop up years later and recreate the problem....See MoreQuestion on new circuit from new subpanel to 2nd floor bathroom
Comments (2)Thank you Ron. The bid I received from my contractor to do this seems outlandish and I was trying to see if there were other options. I thought it might be more cost efficient to not have to open up the walls on two floors etc. I agree it looks better than having the conduit running horizontally up the house. But right now the bid is too prohibitive for the extra subpanel/circuit. The radiant floor itself is a minimal addition....See MoreFloor for 2nd floor of a Townhouse
Comments (5)Carpet hides some of the worst subfloors on the planet. This makes installing new flooring a challenge. And as Tundra has pointed out, tile should be the most expensive option out there. Technically you can add concrete floors to anything you want - if you have boat loads of money and time to do it - anything is possible. So concrete on a second level (assuming this level is wood framed) is possible but with a budget that can't afford hardwood, we can assume you can't afford finished concrete over a "bad" carpeted substrate. A floating floor (of any type) is going to be your fastest remedy. But the stuff that was sitting under your carpet will have to be dealt with. If it is flat and level, then we are fine to work with any floating floor you desire. A "permanent" floor (nailed/glued/stapled/cleated/mortared/etc) is a different story. What lays under carpet is often not good enough to be left in place for a permanent floor. Good luck. A floating floor should do just fine in your situation. And if you wanted concrete, then a tile floor isn't any different. Both are hard on the feet and can be quite loud....See MoreG Viswam
