How do I make a lighted (Xmas) star for front window?
Comments (9)Target may have a star that you put in your window, I have the candle 1 they had couple of yrs ago. It is lights inside a tube, You can buy those same lights in different colors & wire 1 set to a sturdy wire frame you make & then just plug it in, probably would need to go around the star a couple of times to use up the lights. I have a room darkening shade so I just put a coated wire around it & hang it on that. Of course can't use shade until after xmas. Then I put the garland across the window sill plus 3-4 large pinecones. My other front window is always a "toy store window" I loved going into town(we lived at a lake 7 miles out)& staring at all the pretty toys in the Coast-to-Coast store. They had a wagon, doll, bike, teddy bear etc & I do most of that using much smaller items, matchbox truck, Holly Hobby 7 in. doll, 10 in. tree, little red wagon, old ice cart with donkey, 5 in. sled. Little kid in me! Hate to see old traditions die. Jan...See MoreHow can I make my mantel POP? Pictures
Comments (133)Oakleyok, you have a gorgeous fireplace! I love the stone. Your DH has a reason to be proud! I was entertained by reading this thread of suggestions. You asked how you could make your mantel POP and you were told to paint, replace the mantel itself, removed the mantel, etc. Last week I asked about a paint color for my DR and posted my inspiration photo. I also stated that I didn't have to have that room exactly but was wondering how the paint color would look with my lighting, floors, furniture etc. I did get some good feedback but now it seems I must repaint my trim, paint my table, remove my blinds, paint my china cabinet....and the list goes on. All great suggestions but I really just wanted to ask about paint color :) But it did help me think about things and I have decided to paint my table. I had NEVER even thought about it before organicnoob suggested. Good luck with your lovely mantel!...See MoreFront room with large windows and fireplace dilemma
Comments (6)I see plenty of room for a desk area. I would probably put the sofa facing the fireplace, similar to how it is in the pictures. And put the two new chairs on either side of the fireplace to make a conversation area. The desk can go in one of three spots - directly behind the sofa, or in either corner behind the sofa. I would want to leave the window uncovered by furniture. It's a pretty window....See MoreNeed advice on how to make the front of the house pop!
Comments (11)Dress designers first make a trial copy before they cut up their expensive fabric. You might try something similar yourself. Before you start replacing columns and garage doors and shutters... Try painting. I always think front entry garages look better with the door disguised. If we could make it disappear, even better. Pick one of the colors in your brick ( which I don't think is yellow, I think it's really a nice beige with some good dark accent bricks), and paint the garage door that color. Those round pencil columns are attractive. If it were my house, before I did anything to those columns, I would paint the shutters just a little bit darker than the dark brick. If the brick is chocolate, I would mix chocolate with black paint for the shutters. Then ignore it for a few days, and sneak up on the house and look at it with a fresh eye. That will help you decide what color to use on the front door. My first impulse is often a deep lacquer red. It's a beautiful house. Have fun!...See MoreEllen
