Some new seedlings and one from last year.
Comments (8)Lisa - It's interesting to see the sibs from the Trahlyta and Laura Harwood cross. You can really see that Trahlyta influence in most of them. My favorite is the first seedling. I also love that last seedling you posted with the blue band. I would give it more time, too. It's really pretty! Debra...See MoreMy last new ones for the year!
Comments (1)Purchased my last one's of this year during the past week, also. 'Brother Stephan', 'Hanky Panky' & 'Seducer' That was my story until today! Went to a local nursery early this AM for bulbs that just arrived from Holland; Amaryllis, Crocus, Daffs & Tulips. They had second year TC Hostas in 5" pots, for $1.50 or 7/$10. I couldn't pass those up, could I? Not many different cultivars were available, but I managed to find some nice 'Fire Island', 'Whirlwind', Patriot' & 'Earth Angel' I have a very small "lawn" area left for conversion to raised beds, which are necessary for perennial plants/shrubs, because of the red clay, but a side benefit will be, no more lawn mowing! I will be able to keep it trimmed with a "Weed-eater"!...See MoreThe last of LAST year's harvests
Comments (15)Bill: It's always bad. They're always raising water prices and restricting us of usage, but this year is BAD. Hopefully the rest of this month and march pans out. After that, we get very, very little rain traditionally. All of SoCal is actually considered desert. We have to import the majority of our water. I'll get by --- you can have your 3 feet of snow and subzero temps. :P Alex: I usually start them at the beginning of the year. But, between a major toothache, contemplation over the drought to do anything at all, and overall procrastination, I just started a few days ago. Looking for the little tails peeking through paper towels daily. Overlap? Sometimes, not always. I'm usually pulling plants late Dec/Early Jan, but even the little frost we've had didn't do in 3 of my chinenses that still had tons of pods. This year I pulled all my annuums and chinenses that were podless when it got cold(anticipation) and they were just slowing for the winter. I should have let them be, but if a plant is going to sit around for 4 months not producing, it not worth my effort(watering, pest control, etc). Thanks All. Kevin...See MoreLast year's new ones
Comments (8)That white chair is the viewing point of my grumpy hosta checker. The cat in the picture is a stray one from a neighbour who does not care too much for him. I always attract lonesome souls...had a lot of those cats coming by and eating and getting a little bit of love over the years. But my own cat does not like those visitors...His name is Kater, this is the translation in German of the cat's name Audrey Hepburn had in Breakfast at Tiffanys. How was it called in the original? Those purple pots do compliment the hostas. I already mentioned that I don't like this color too much, but with hostas it is almost better than blue. I painted some cheap plastic pots in metallic blue acryl color. Cheap and good looking. Sherry, that Flemish Sky really looks good this year! After all this trouble we had in spring they all do amazingly well, some have frostbite, but I'm used to it, they look good again within two weeks. Sorry that I don't know the name, but this purple plant goes together well with my Eos...Another one I love with Hostas is Alchemilla, in German called Frauenmantel, which means Women's coat translated. They seem to have diamonds around the leaves when it was foggy or rainy. I will get a parcel with companion plants for hostas this week, all new ones to my garden. I hope I do like them and that they will fit in with the others. My jungle is growing:-)...See MoreDelawareDonna Zone 7A
