First bloom of the season

This really wasn't the first bloom of the season, but I don't count Stellas or plants from the south that came this Spring. LAVENDER BLUE BABY kicked things off this year. Usually it is LAVA FLOW.

I took two pictures: one in the sun and one shaded. These were taken at 1 pm, after church on Father's Day. I had not even noticed it in the am. It was already 90 degrees when the pictures were taken. The second one is a little blurry as I had to straddle a couple of plants with scapes and had to use one hand to shade. My neighbors must think I am nuts.

A clean bloom, which many of the first ones are not. Foliage seems vigorous .

Thanks, Judy! I know what you mean about first blooms being wonky, a lot of mine are too! Should have waited until today, now it's opened up more, this is the prettiest stage, I think. This one's a sport of Mme Isaac Pereire, love them both, MIP blooms are larger, but I really like this color. I cut this one back quite a bit, but it's still going to bloom pretty good.

Still more.. looking weirdly shaped because these are last year spikes, they stay green so I didn't cut them out of curiosity And a nice surprise, this one has bloomed earlier this year, I have posted about it here a few months ago..
