should Hardi Plank be primed on the back side before install?
Comments (5)"We find the installation instruction rather odd that they advise NOT to caulk between boards. Won't water get in there and ruin it?" Siding is not the final drainage plane on the exterior of a house. The tar paper or house wrap is intended to stop water movement (while still allowing vapor movement). Exterior walls need to resists water entry, while allowing for vapor to not become trapped in the structure since some will move from the living space into the walls....See MoreMaxiTile versus Nichiha versus Hardi & other fiber cement siding
Comments (12)Beware of MaxiTile and their product. I live in the Midwest and have been through a nightmare with this company and its product. First of all, the issue I had with the product was that it shrank. Yes thatÂs right, almost 3/16 at every seam. It was installed by a Maxi Tile recommended installer as well. Then when I called the manufacture I was given the run around for nearly a year and a half. One rep came out, inspected the siding, agreed to replace the inferior product and reimburse the labor cost, but soon left the company. Then it took nearly a year to get someone to tell me the status of my claim. Once I was able to get a hold of the regional business development manager I was told that my settlement would be for half the cost of the labor and no product. When I asked how they arrived at that settlement I was told take it or leave it. So after their offer I am out $5500.00. By the way, I replaced their product with Hardi Board....See MoreNeed advise! colour suggestions for Harris plank and trim.
Comments (8)I see if you could even out that portion (gable?) above the front door/window area so that you could do some cedar (or composite cedar) shake see how they have it done here? Or, even better, do the Hardie wood composite siding and do your tops like this Here, I tried to photo shop it on to yours. I love this double gable look w/the wood. Or you could even do the same color shingles in there instead of this siding. Then bring in this beautiful blue, or black or forest green siding, paint your stairs to march, redo the railing and the trim Hardie, Deep Ocean: The blues w/the wood accents are gorgeous This one is Hardie Artisan siding in Montana. looks nice w/the cedar shake The black and white cottage looks great. You could easily do something like this. (but I'd like the wood shake or shingles in the gable portion) here's a lighter siding color w/new wood stairs, and nice flower beds. bright red door...See MorePlyDry House Wrap under Hardie Plank Siding
Comments (2)Thanks for the response. The warranty question is a good one. I'm sure the product is fine but I asked the contractor to swap out the PlyDry for Tyvek HomeWrap which they have started to do, begrudgingly. I've been having a hard time finding any information on this product and the siding investment is too great to take the risk....See Moreksc36
