Can you take a photo without the flash? Also one from the side to make leaf arrangement easier to see? Right now it is tough to see any detail.

Often young tree leaves don’t look like older versions of the same species, so it may be red maple, Acer rubrum. I have also heard maples with reddish foliage referred to as red maples, so consider Norway maple or Japanese maple. The red foliage types may have seedlings with red or green foliage.

I took this photo with a Ipad and the top leaves don’t look all that green. They got scorched by the sun. The seeds it came from were large brown seeds. It maybe a type of red maple I never seen one with star shaped leaves like this.

You will probably have to wait until that seedling is better established and sends out some new and healthier leaves

If it came from large seeds, it isn’t a red maple which have seeds about an inch long. Norway maple have the largest seeds of the maples with which I am familiar and there is a red form of Norway maple, but there are a bunch of maple I haven’t seen that are more common closer to the west coast. Where are you?

I think Huggorn is likely correct that to get a firm ID you will have to wait until it gets new leaves.

look down and find countless seedlings. Even if the mow,blow&go guys have nuked them, there will still be a few left behind. You'll find all the RM seedlings you need.
