Comments (9)Sorry to here your coco didn't make it :( I was sure it would, it looked better than my coco. I still have my coco and she is growing mature fronds now, however, they are very light green. Don't know what that means? She also had aphids, but I mixed dish soap with water and sprayed all fronds and stems, killed them pretty quick. I might have got lucky this time. Good luck to you, and hope your plants do very well- US_Marine...See MoreRootings by US Postal Service
Comments (5)LOL Jack...you should patent this method of rooting and add it to the never-ending list. My greatest success ratio (9 out of 10) came from the most crude method I've ever used (before I got smart and learned about vermiculite, bags, cups, etc.). Also, some of these were very large branches with multiple limbs on them. I put some topsoil in pots, poked a hole where the cutting would go, sprinkled some powdered rooting hormone in the hole, dipped the cutting in water & sprinkled some hormone on the cutting, stuck it in the hole and watered. I just put them in the shade. That was last March. Several of these now look like two year old trees. Here in the land of humidity I don't think it needs to be any more scientific than that. This year I'm going to use that as my main method. I just hope cuttings that have been in the refrigerator will do as well as the ones I potted up immediately after pruning them. Comments (39)juddgirl2 - I have been on vacation and am now seeing this thread. Now I am traumatized by just reading it! Try putting a freshly cut apple in your sons desk drawers. Leave them inside for a few days. This little trick was giving to us by a car dealer to remove odors from cars. My daughters cat urinated on her back seat. We removed the seat cover and shampooed it, but the smell was still slightly detected. The apple worked, although my daughter forgot about it and it attracted fruit flies! segbrown - If you have the stomach, read my story about our outdoor grill. Beware...it is heart wrenching, but the grill lives on, even though it took several hose and dishwasher cleanings to be presentable for me to cook on. I wanted to get rid of it, but DH wouldn't hear of it. Here is a link that might be useful: The grill versus the birds...See MoreJust February, but can I complain about Easter?
Comments (67)"People coming from Russia at that time did not often want it to be thought they might be communists" maifleur, I've read dozens of books on 20th century US and European history and this narrative you keep repeating differs from what I've read. The US didn't immediately warm up to the new Soviet Union for geopolitical reasons as much as anything. When Lenin took power in 1917, he withdrew the country from active conflict. That allowed Germany to concentrate its forces on the Western front (where the allies and ultimately the US were fighting). On the other hand, anti-German sentiment was quite strong some time earlier because of the war (started in 1914, renaming of Kitchener was in 1916 just as one of many examples). The Soviet regime was new and in the early years, few Americans knew much about it. The Germans were severely punished by the Treaty of Versailles and not forgiven by the western powers anytime before WW2 started. If you had a choice in the teens to 40s of being known as having German or Russian ancestors, most would have chosen Russian. It would be wrong to not mention that Germany (West Germany through the fall of the wall) was the bulwark of the West during the Cold War and has served as the anchor point and foundation of European recovery, peace and prosperity for the last 60+ years. And continues to function as that foundation....See More- 7 years ago
