Most of that is plain ol', nothing special crabgrass. The angle of the picture is bad, though, and I wish there were some much-closer pictures to look at to make sure there is no Nutsedge in there.

Thank you all. Identification even of trees is not my strong suit. Yeah, that part dries out especially fast. Notice it is strung out over a silver maple stump probably a clean foot from any good soil. Amazing how well the stuff grows. That spot is near the edge of the lawn and NEVER gets watered. If folks like Bermuda then I recommend it anyolace your neighbors will not mind. Stuff is impossible to keep out of the flower beds. Thank goodness for round-up

I wonder if there is a poison for this that would kill only the crabgrass ??? I do know that this weed can do very little in a healthy well watered((IMO)) lawn..

I'm sure somebody will be along to confirm or deny. If it is the dreaded K31 (AKA KY-31), there's no easy selective way to get rid of it. Theoretically, Certainty herbicide would wipe the fescues without kiling the KBG, but in practice that's not very effective. K31 will put up with anything up to and including nuclear war while the KBG takes incredibly heavy damage, and the dosing is very, very fine. If it's as widespread as it looks, wiping the deck with Round Up and starting from scratch may be your only option if you want to get rid of it. Alternately, if it's more clumpy than it looks, you could spot spray Round Up or Certainty to kill the K-31, accept the incidental damage to the surrounding grasses (there will be some), and spot seed just those in fall.
