Comments (18)This is lkplatow's sister. Thanks so much for your advice - I'm just horrible at picking interior finishes and this room has proven to be a challenge because of its location, shape and function (or lack thereof). Right now, it's used mostly for a den/playroom for our 4-year-old. Once we get the shelving figured out, we'll move a lot of the open toy storage into the base cabinets, and his books on to the lower shelves. Again, have to apologize for the clutter!! Here's a wider shot of the room, from the doorway to the kitchen which is opposite of the fireplace wall: There are some faux beams on the ceiling that have been painted the same color as the paneling which is on the walls. (We'd love to drywall the whole thing, but again, time being what it is, we really just need to get this room pulled together for the short term!) The next three pictures are starting on the left side of the shelves and looking along the adjacent wall with the sliding glass doors to the backyard, and then the small seating area with the leather club chairs, and a vintage advertising poster on the wall. Please ignore the lamp - I hate it but DH doesn't. We're working on that! :P (Oh yes, and the brass switch plates are also getting the axe ASAP.) Continuing to look at the opposite side of the room from the fireplace, you can see the doorway into the kitchen and then immediately adjacent on the other wall, the doorway into the center hall of the house. And then finally, coming back around, this is a shot of the wall to the right of the shelves/fireplace with the door to the hall in the back and the door into the living room in the front. We put in these white built-in's shortly after we moved in. That room was a desert rose color that was way dark, so we painted it a creamy yellow and all the trim white, along with building a wall of bookshelves with a fireplace mantle in the middle. I don't know that I'm crazy about the idea of going black on the shelves. I was originally thinking a shade or two darker than the wall color, so this is a lot of good feedback! Keep it coming!!!!...See MoreKoko Loko/Soul Sister and suggestions?
Comments (3)Thank you Kristine. :-) The Lady Emma is for a purple and orange bed we've been working on. We did plant both a Twilight Zone and Ebb Tide in that bed about a month ago. I thought we were going to lose the Ebb Tide, but we just had a tiny first flower open. This first bloom is much smaller and more fuchsia than I think we will have when the plant eventually matures, but the scent is fab for such a tiny flower/plant. I'm planning to place Gold Badge beside a climbing Iceberg and Golden Celebration to create a hedge. In front of this we planted a Rainbow Happy Trails, and I'm thinking there's space there for several shorter perennials and another groundcover rose or two. Wanting to stick with the yellows, whites and touches of pink in this bed. And Koko? Golly. lol I have no idea. It's just been calling my name since I saw pictures of it on this forum. I finally convince my husband it was one we needed. I'll probably put it in a pot for now. That way I can move it around until we figure out a permanent home. I've read so many wonderful reviews of Roses Unlimited and I'm looking forward to ordering from them. We had been looking for an own root Lady Emma since the spring and I was very happy to see they have her....See MoreSoul Sister Koko Loko
Comments (18)philipatx, yes Sweet Olive grow wonderful for me in Dallas. I was told when I moved here from Houston that they might freeze but this has not been my experience . The second winter after I planted was when Dallas temps dropped into the low teens and remained. They were at my roof by then and I had them professionally covered with packing material then plastic. they were warm and toasty in their little cocoons. I have not done that since and they are now 11 yrs old and have become actual multi trunk big caliber trees . I highly recommend them but be prepared you will often lose some of those wonderful smells as they cycle in and out of bloom. It seem we get a freeze about the time they in beginning to bloom.... like today. They do cycle about 3-4 times a year here so never are they all lost. In Houston, I seem to remember them blooming always but of course they rarely lost flower in freeze. Hope this helps....See More- 5 years ago
