What do you all do with pink?
Comments (11)Thanks to all for suggestions. And Steve - glad to hear I am not the only one with this problem! It seems I get stuck with my favorite color combinations, so of course I make those arrangements first. However, this time I made a point to use my pink flowers first and came up with 2 really pretty bouquets! Thankfully, my lime or envy zinnias just started coming in, and I found that I actually DO like pink with green!!! I guess I am not alone, because a woman walked up, pointed at it, and said "Yes - how much?" It's always so validating when others find your creations as beautiful as you do! I have attached a link to some pictures of my bouquets. The pink and green is the last pic in the first post. Forgive the pink bucket it is in - that is where we keep sold bouquets until customers come back to pick them up :) Thanks again for the suggestions. I think I just got "un-stuck" with pink as long as I have my chartreuse zinnias! Here is a link that might be useful: bouquet pictures...See MoreSuggestions on what to add to the foyer (if anything)
Comments (15)Thanks for the suggestions. I was looking at getting a larger rug for that space that would extend into the foyer. Would a natural sisal or jute rug work the best or something with a pattern? I was also thinking of a table over the bench, but then it wouldn't be as inviting to sit on the bench, and the bench wouldn't get a ton of use if you had to take the extra step to pull it out from under a table. So, I was thinking of may be a ledge? I agree, I wish I had wired that area for sconces so that I could have sconces on each side of the mirror. Too late for that! Ok, may be I will go for the umbrella stand. I could see how sometimes that would be useful. May be I could convert my family from those compact umbrellas to the long ones. I'm sure that our boys would love using them as swords at the very least.......See MoreWhat would you do with this foyer?
Comments (18)This is really a random comment, but I'm currently loving having no window coverings. We do have custom blinds fit into every window, but we keep them pulled up almost all the time. There is no curtain to be found anywhere in my house. It was originally this way because my husband bought the house and lived in it alone before he met me, and he was not into decorating. But after I moved in and finally painted the builder white walls, I realized that I really loved the clean look. My windows are very similar to yours - 6 over 6 divided light, with white trim. (My trim might be very slightly wider than yours - hard to tell.) My instinct used to always be to put up curtains, but now I've moved away from that. As long as your trim is good, having no curtains results in a very clean look. You also don't have to worry about coordinating with furniture, wall color, etc., and about what length to use on windows that don't go all the way to the floor. And you get as much natural light as possible. If I were you I would actually remove those drapes. You've got a great clean look throughout the kitchen, without window coverings. If you need privacy, you could fit wooden blinds inside the windows. It's hard to tell exactly what color the walls in the living room area are - I think they are probably more the soft creamy yellow that it appears in the last photo, and not the pink/peach it appears in other photos. If it's the same as what is in the kitchen, then I think that color is actually very good. You might want possible want something slightly more taupe-y for the living room, but since it is open to the kitchen, you'll have to be careful about the color. I know, off-topic... it's just that I have been looking at a ton of real estate photos lately (might put our house on the market in a couple years, and I'm interested in what the market is like) and curtains always seem to ruin things. They seem to be the most taste-specific things and the things that most easily seem to ruin rooms. It seems like EVERYONE immediately puts up curtains, but they're often just messy and don't really do anything to enhance the room. Yours are actually pretty good - very pretty color - but they limit you a bit. The "correctness" of that length on windows that size is also debatable. I've read that you should make the drapes go to the floor, but I've also seen a supposed "egregious real estate photo" which was flagged specifically for having drapes fitted like that. BTW, would you keep that rug (which I really like)? Could you look closely at it and maybe pull out a color which doesn't immediately jump out at you, and use that on the wall? That would pull everything together. Just so you know, my furnishings are similar in color scheme to yours, and my walls are a similar yellowish, with one wall (which runs into the kitchen) being sort of a sage-y olive-y green. I don't know that I love the yellow, and the green is too dark to do on all the walls, but something in that family, just lighter, would work on all the walls. You might go for a light grey with an undertone of green....See MoreSuggestions for rotunda foyer
Comments (74)Hi Idaclaire, I can always take the light fixture with me. I will not be painting the whole house just the niche and the ceiling. You're absolutely right and I am not offended by your comment, nor does it come off as condescending. It is much greatly appreciated. Without going into much detail, this is our first home property. I always wanted to buy a home, while my spouse never wanted to because he felt it tied him down to one location. I think I mention up above that we move quiet often also. I know that I probably wont be able to fully decorate the house to my liking but atleast I got the chance to decorate it and we finally owned something. We relocated to the dfw area back in December 2017 and as soon as we move out here we started house searching. The deal between my spouse and I, was on the notion that he get me a home, stay for atleast a year and then we can move to where he wants. ( Compromise) we get to spend the holidays with our families and be closer to them. That was the deal. We offically been in the dfw area for 1 year and 1 month. I always knew we would be living sooner than later, but he met the agreement. I just want to own something that.was ours and do what we like. We have been renting for 13 years moving and moving and it gets tiring. We just hit our 30s and realize if we have kids, they will need to be homeschooled by a private tutor. I know it may seem like plenty of work, but I can always re attach the standard light fixtures back into the home and take the ones we buy with us to our new location. I have already axed out the tile idea lol. Bening in this home is my dream.right now and finally executing everything I dream off for over the past decade....See MoreKathryn P
