The Search Function on this Forum Stinks!
Comments (22)What I always do now is use google. I type in what I want to search followed by gardenweb. So if I want to search marble countertops, in the Google search box I'd type: marble countertops gardenweb The first thing that comes up is usually an ad for Lowe's or something... The next thing is a paragraph looking thing that looks smushier than the results below it. It's ALL GW results and right below it in smaller writing it says "more results from gardenweb.com>>" CLICK THAT. The next pages are NOTHING BUT GW RESULTS. If you bookmark that page and save it to your favorites, you can search from that page from now on. The "site.ths.gardenweb.com" can stay in the searchbox and you would just change out what's in the rest of the google search box for your search. It's really super easy. It sounds like more steps than it is. Once I figured that out, it became the only way I searched GW. I found out that threads get purged from the site after a while but stay archived in google. There's still no chronological order. But it's much more helpful than trying to do a search here....See MoreHey TAMARA--The COOKING FORUM ISN"T SEARCH-ABLE!
Comments (11)Ellen - Are you pulling up the app to do your searching or are you going in through the mobile browser? Currently, the app is not set up to include the GW forums, but it's on the to-do list. So, I would suggest using your mobile browser and making sure that you bookmark http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/cooking . Once you are in the forum you can tap the 'advice' heading once you've typed in your search. I did notice the glitch that doesn't allow the search only in the Cooking forum, like it does on regular devices and tablets, so I have reported that. But, in the meantime, when I typed in '3 ingredient ice cream recipe', it did pull up the post you were hunting as one of the top results. If you do search the forum a lot from your phone, you might want to use this workaround in the meantime. If you bookmark this url on your phone - http://www.gardenweb.com/gardenweb/query/chicken-soup/topic=cooking - you can replace the words 'chicken-soup' with whatever you want your search term to be and it will pull up everything from just the Cooking forum. So, your ice cream query could look like this: http://www.gardenweb.com/gardenweb/query/3-ingredient-ice-cream-recipe/topic=cooking Let me know if my explanation needs more work or if you have further questions....See MoreHow do I now get to the main page which lists all forums?
Comments (79)I have tried to help people find stuff. People have helped me before and I appreciated it. Now, It just seems lets bash Houzz. Houzz is bad Garden Web is good. If it can't be like it was 5, 10, 15 years ago, it is bad. If Houzz hadn't of bought GW, you might not have it at all. What you are complaining about is not that much different than before. It is just a different way of looking at it. I hope you have a better day and try to stretch your wings to learn new things and new ways of looking at them....See MoreSearch function now totally uselezz...for Rose Forums at least
Comments (53)Here’s another example. Again without going to Google or other similiar site. Rather, by typing gardenweb.com in the address box, and then entering the search term (in this case, “Mr. Lincoln”) in the search box at gardenweb.com. The first option presented is to search “Mr. Lincoln in Gardenweb“. Which yields: https://www.gardenweb.com/discussions/query/%E2%80%98mr.-lincoln%E2%80%99/nqrw As you can see, over 2000 gardenweb Rose forum discussions on Mr. Lincoln, the rose. And you can arrange them by ”latest”, ”relevance”, ”unanswered” or ”popular”. Just like before....See Morecarolb_w_fl_coastal_9b
