shanghaimom: i can't wait to get the sconces in. i ordered seven of them; three for the vanity backsplash with two additional to sit on either side of the double french entry doors, over panels of the shell tile. the remaining two will go in a sort of entry room to my closet, which is a vanity/makeup area, so i'm hoping they throw off enough light. if not, there's Plan B (which i haven't really thought of yet.) and yes, the finish on the sconces seems very non-committal! i'm thinking it will be nice to mix it up a bit with the finishes in there. fingers crossed that it all pulls together!

Checked out Hubbardton Forge, nice stuff, not exactly the right sizes or colors. But a very nice line. While at Lamps Plus I did see the Kichler Montara Collection 24 1/2" Wide Pendant light with umber glass. It's a bit old world and might have to be shortened but the price was certainly right! I've also seen ONLINE this porcelain fixture, but I hate to buy something like this sight unseen! I have about 114" from the beam to the floor and a pendant will spread the light better as well as look better mounted on the beam. That leaves about 7 ft from the floor and this will/should sit over the large square glass/wood coffee table. Here is a link that might be useful: Fixture choice

Thanks people, I love the Justice stuff, but the sizes seem to be similar-- 24". The designer and DH want things in, probably cuz we're stuck with waiting on some other stuff from the contractor-- like a window which is holding up the carpet and furniture's return from storage. I was also thinking about a re-purposed antique. That might just do it, although I was hoping for more of a transitional fixture. We've lived her for 34 (gasp!) years and that room NEVER had enough light from the lamps. We've installed some low voltage lighting for wall washing, but nothing that will uplight the ceiling and add an overall glow. And that is what the designer is aiming for. She's used to working for clients with huge budgets and we've eaten up ours with all the unplanned construction. It's fabulous and I'm not unhappy, but it definitely cuts down on the amount available for decor. We also need a dining room fixture. I had/have a typical Dutch brass chandelier with 12 candle bulbs. I want to replace it with a coordinating fixture to the living room, but need to find one that offers good light. Maybe it's getting older, but we find we want more light. If it's too bright for a dinner party or such, I can always use a dimmer. I haven't found anything right for that space either! I'll probably hang the old fixture until the right one comes along. Keep those ideas coming though, I love it!

What you suggest I have done many times and is on the right track. Check sites like Lightolier and Halo for ideas and examples. Go to their recessed lighting sections.
