Landscaping Mock Up pics and questions...
Comments (11)Here is an update to the landscaping, we got all the block walls and beds in, we still have to build that porch and deck area but it sure has come a long ways! I have all of 3 plants planted so far!! A royalty crabapple tree, a blue globe spruce and a corkscrew trunck laceleaf japanese maple. So far so good. Thought you might want to see it. house front side angle another angle royalty crabapple tree Don't mind our crazy front steps rf other rough edges, in a few weeks we'll have so much more done but for now this is how it looks. Notice the drift wood positioned in front of the gas meter so hopefully it will camoflauge it some. (we paid to have the meter moved to there rather than right next to the front door where we'd have to build the deck around it etc!!) We have some finishing up work on our siding and to paint and all those details as well but I am so happy not to have a mud front yard I had to share! Enjoy! Thanks for the advice all. Now I just have to get a few plants each paycheck. I have lots shrubs and plants on my list of wants, I also have to decide on a second tree now.....maybe I should get a 2nd royalty crabapple? Here are some of the plants I have planned: burning bushes (group of 3), magic carpet spirea (7 all along front porch area), barberry (not sure DH does not like thorns), In the shade bed-hostas (blue, blue/green variegated, and white/green variegated), bleeding hearts, daylillies (little business), my monet weigela, mugo pines, blue rug juniper (under the japanese maple, I saw that combo somewhere in a pic and it was so neat the blue and red tones were amazing), purple fountain grass, and two redtwig variegated dogwood's (ivory halo) on each corner of the house I thought the red twigs would look good against the house in winter. I am excited! Can't you tell?...See MoreShutter / window boxes color suggestions?
Comments (8)Thank you for the advice!!! I'm wondering about a pediment and columns on the side of the doors. But the front of the house is so smallish I don't want to clutter it. Definatly doing window boxes on all 3 windows. I love the white idea, which isn't much change but it's what I'm comfortable with. I like the black with hint of green. Buffet girl, is there a program you used that colored the shutters? I'd love to play around with such a program. Let me know what you use! Thanks!, Teacats, it's like we were on the same page, I do use black urns on either side of the door with petunias. And there's a vine working its way up the pole now! Unfortunatly the painting the brick idea isn't an option, my husband won't go for it. If he would, I'd paint the house a sagely olive tone and make it really pretty. I guess I'm just thankful I don't have the orange brick that my neighbor does, I don't know how id work with that !! :)...See MoreUpdate with mock up pics - exterior color change!
Comments (19)I like the first one after you got the siding to a taupe, but I think the color needs to be less pink/grey and more to the coral/peach -- but that's a matter of matching it to your brick. The point is that you are getting the idea here. That last one shows your house doesn't need shutters. If you want to keep them, I think white works best with charcoal a distant second (the darker color makes them look very long and thin). If you keep the shutters, I'd look at a deeper color -- more of a hunter green, navy blue or the plum/fig/raisin idea. If you don't have the shutters, the brighter green works but the other colors aren't doing it for me. Another thing to think about -- removing the shutters opens up some different options in terms of taller or ornamental plantings or other accents (bird bath, fountain, etc.). I'd like a garden bench in front of the area where the two sidings come together or in the garden somewhere. I'd make a more clearly defined but curved path from the drive to the front door (might be there and just need some cleaning up) and think about extending the flower beds so they come up around the large tree trunk on the one side. The shade will be a nice place to plant hostas, impatients, possibly ferns -- all things that can feel cool and refreshing in the summer. Those are things that can be added in phases. You are getting the idea now.........See MoreNew Kitchen Mock Ups and Suggestions
Comments (21)Listen to Jillius. You absolutely must have more counter between sink and range for prep. Minimum 36". Most prefer closer to 48". I have 54" and wouldn't want to lose as inch. As jannicone stated, that is the "most precious" counter in the kitchen, a natural place for doing all your prep work so you will want to have room to spread out, and not having adequate prep counter there will make cooking in your kitchen very inefficient and frustrating. So, as Jillius said, switch fridge to other end of room, put a microwave, if you are having one, on a shelf next to the fridge, and install drawers for dishes where you currently have the fridge. Then, on the sink side, move the DW all the way to the left (you will probably need 1-2" of filler between DW and wall), move the sink down next to the DW, and enjoy the nice prep space between sink and range every dang time you cook. It looks like this will triple your prep space. Yay! And move your trash into the prep space because that is where most trash is generated. Composting, too, if you do that. These changes will make a huge difference. I would not want to work in your current kitchen plan at all. I would hate it. I would love to work in your kitchen if you make those changes. It will make cooking so much more efficient, efficient and even fun! I probably shouldn't add this but I can't keep my mouth closed sometimes. Your designer is NOT a great designer. Your designer is doing a hack job, focusing on appearances over function when you can have both function and a nice appearance, and is ignoring some of the most basic rules of kitchen design established by the NKBA. Is he/she a member? Just curious....See Moreraee_gw zone 5b-6a Ohio
